I'm with you on this. Jon Stewart makes me laugh harder than any other person on TV. He's a natural.
Did you see the show he did after the terrorist attacks? He was talking and crying about the situation? It seemed very genuine and off-the-cuff and was even more poignant coming from someone who doesn't usually act that way.
Last night's show was fantastic. He brought in one of the guys from "60 Minutes" and they had a really good talk about news media, how they conjecture and speculate, as well as how they intentionally scare the crap out of people. He's probably one of the most eloquent critics of the media that I know of, not because he uses big words or flowery speeches, but he just gets his point across, and it's funny. His supporting cast is a riot also. Steve Correll and Steven Colbert (sp) are frickin hillarious.
fer such a loose show made fer entertainment, they handle things in a very professional manner that has earned the respect of anyone watching it...
yes, i did see the first broadcast after the attacks...and such sincerity w/ no fear of showing emotion...it effected me, as well as my roomate, in such a way that it made me feel as if i was from New York myself.

even though the show is made for comedy, it has the respect that could only be earned.

So do Jay Leno, David Letterman, and Conan O'Brien, and yet I find none of them particularly funny. Jon Stewart is funny. He can just look at the camera in a certain way and I'm giggling. Personal taste, I guess.
The Daily Show really deserved the Peabody Award. I can honestly say it's the only show on TV that makes me laugh.

I have a soft spot in my heart for any of those Trenton boys. Stewart's talk after 9/11 was really heart-wrenching, and hit home (literally) when he talked about the Trenton riots of '68. He still managed to find levity when he described his experience of siting under his desk eating cottage cheese. Helped a lot. While the writing is really observant, his improvised moments during interviews and such are what sets the show apart from Leno and the like (OK, Dave Letterman is funny in that way too, but John doesn't know how to suck up like he does, which makes for even more funny moments).

Their coverage of the Republican primary was priceless. Remember when they asked Forbes if he had enough money to buy enough votes to win a primary? Or when they asked McCain who the biggest pop music band to ever come out of Iceland was.
They got kicked off the straight talk express too, that was sweet.
That show is terrific. I will point out, that it's not where I get the majority of the news, but its very uplifting to watch before I go to sleep. The regular news is so disturbing that it's good to watch something that's funny, while still dealing with some of those issues.
Did anyone see the segment that they did the other night called 'ad naseum'? They chewed out all of the major 'news networks' for their chilling graphics and self glorification. I loved seeing the Fox News logo with Bozo the Clown Music.
