Help with trash?

I haven't been able to empty my trash. No warning messages pop up and I believe that I have full rights/authorization to delete the files. I click "empty trash" the crinkling noise is made and the trash is still there. I have been able to force delete the trash through BatChmod, but I would like to know why my computer won't let me empty trash the normal way. Can anyone help?

    Finder Preferences > Advanced

    uncheck Empty Trash Securely



    If it was checked, did that fix the problem?

    If it was unchecked, that's obviously not any help.



    So, in that case, what OS do you have? (I'm on 10.5.8)
