Trouble installing snow leopard on striped raid disk

I have two internal 1gig drives in my Mac Pro, combined into a striped raid disk (via the Apple disk utility). The array volume was working fine with the previous version of MacOS.

1. The snow leopard installer does not offer that disk as one of the options to install on, so I installed it on my backup drive instead, and copied my documents over.

2. I removed the striped raid volume, erased both disks with the disk utility, re-built the array. After this the installer still would not notice the volume.

3. Copied with Superduper! from my new boot disk (former backup disk) to the raid array. No errors during the copy process, but booting from the array gives me a question mark on startup, while the backup drive boots fine.

Any suggestions? Has there been any known issues raised/fixed with snow leopard and raid volumes?

You need to boot off the DVD and install
