Dog, they make much better companions. And they're bigger so you can actually play with them instead of dangling a ball of yarn or something in front ot them.

    Ow.

Uh, cats. Dogs are great but most are noisy, stink and sometimes act plain stupid. A cat is quiet and will always be on it's own but it does know who the true master is (especially at feeding time). Plus they'll catch/eat mice.

I think he meant to say wife?

Definately dog. Cats are boring. What is the sense of getting a pet if they don't do anything but lay there. Companionship? Cats are not good companions. They couldn't care less about you. All they care about is laying around all day and eating every once in awhile.

I like both, but they both have their advantages/disadvantages.

Dog's stink, that's the main gripe about them. No matter what you do they always smell like dogs. Cats are mostly odorless. Cats are also very quiet, this can be a good or bad thing depending on your personality.

What makes dogs my favorite (by a small margin) is their sweetness, loyalty and playfulness.

Dogs are like the best buddies you used to have in elementary school, fun to wrestle and always happy to see you.

Having a cat is like having a self-absorbed girlfriend; priorities #1 - #100 involves itself and it wouldn't give a shit if you died right in front of it as long as it had plenty of food and stuff to distract itself with.

Cats are more low maintenance and you can ignore a cat and it won't sad like dogs do, so dogs are a lot more of an investment time and affection wise.

If they made an odorless and litterbox trained dog, cats would be obsolete.

I think it really depends on your lifestyle, if your not home alot and don't like a whole lot of interaction then a cat IMO. If you have some time on your hands and are home alot then a Dog would seem better.

Personally I love my Dacshaund (SP?). I'll try and post a pic of him later.

I love both dogs and cats, and have both. I can't remember who said this but the main difference is that dogs have owners and cats have staff.

Cat, definitely. I don't understand where people get this idea that cats aren't affectionate. I own two cats and they both greet me when I come home every day. Plus you don't have to take them outside to do their thing...

Cats. They leave you alone when you don't want o be bugged and they seem to be able to keep themselves amused by themselves. They don't stink or slobber on you. Enough said.

Um, cats do too smell. The minute you walk into someone's house you can usually tell if they have a cat, and not because it comes out to greet you. Cats also leave hair all over the place which gets all over the furniture and your clothes. Obviously some breeds of dog also cause this problem, but not all of them.

When's the last time you heard of a cat scaring off an intruder or attacking it's master's assailant or ...mangling a small child. (Uh, forget that last one. )

    Wow, Sumo Cats! Cool.

Ok, two long stories but here they go...

    Mushroom Man

My friend has two cats. One night one of the cats was under a chair in the living room and the other was staring at us laughing at some movie on TV. Well, after a few more beers my friend got up, donned this floor pillow on top of his head and started spooking the cat. Whoa, this cat freaked...sat there for a second staring at him...tilting it's head like animals do...my friend looked like a mushroom.

Well, something weird happened, the cat turned around and stared over where the other cat was under the chair. Without making any sound as far as I know the other cat came out from under the chair. He stared at my friend...tilted it's head...turned and stared at the other cat. The other cat tilted it's head again...looked back at my friend the mushroom man and then looked back at the other cat...then they both high tailed it up the stairs!

Serious telepathy going on with these two cats...I think cats do have it.

    The Cat that Never Spoke

My nephew Ben brought in a stray cat once and took care of it. This cat never meowed...nothing.

When my nephew died my sister thought of maybe getting rid of the cat via the ASPCA...but understandably she much more on her mind...

The very same week...right after my nephew's funeral...my sister woke up and took a shower. Then went on to put on make-up in the bathroom mirror over the sink. Suddenly, the cat...the one that never made a sound...got up next to the sink on the toilet lid...sat up looking at her and started meowing. Like talking...She thought that was so strange, but cute. She asked me why a cat would change like that...I told her I thought my Ben's soul was temporarily in the cat...

    Cats definately have strange powers... <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" />

I own a cat, as well as living with a dog in my house. I grew up with both. Both have there good and bad points, and I like them both. I have more fun with dogs, but have much more respect for cats. You have to earn a cats love and affection, dogs are too easy. I think the people who hate cats, other than the ones that are allergic, are too lazy to get a cat to love them.

I like the line from Meet The Parents about dogs vs. cats. I cant remember it exactly but it had to do with being able to beet respect into a dog while having to earn it from a cat. Can anyone can remember it ?

    Cats.

    I hate dogs.

    Both.

Cats: Cleaner, smaller, better for apartments, fluffier, and on average more personallity.

Dogs: More loyal, friendlier (most of the time), actually give a shit about you.

Howeer I really like Scotish Terriers, those things are cool. Same with bulldogs.
