Diane Sawyer mentioned that "IT" would be revealed "one week from today" (that would be December 3, 2001)

<a href="http://www.ginger-chat.com/GMA_IT_Announcement.wav"; target="_blank">Here is a shortcut to the audio clip from the show... click here.

Here is a clipping

[quote] ""Do you remember IT? A number of people as I go around the country have said to me "what about IT, whatever happened to IT? You talked about IT." Well, we told you earlier about this super-secret brainchild of inventor Dean Kamen.

A mystery invention that, we have been told, not only did it create buzz, everyone will have to have one, it will immediately make the people who sell it richer than Bill Gates. It's that inventive, that amazing.

Well, are you ready, 'cos one week from today, we're gonna reveal right here what IT is. And we don't know either: we don't know if you eat it, or ride it, or co-anchor with it, we don't know, do we? (laughs)

But we're gonna find out one week from today."" (Diane Sawyer - Good Morning America)

Soon we will all know what the "earth changing" - "hoohaa is all about...

what are your thoughts...???

what is ginger...???

Here is a bit of idealistic and wishful thinking:

If "Ginger" turns out to be some amazing variety of super-efficient fuel cell/cheap energy production device (zero-point vacuum energy perhaps?)...which can be used to power motor vehicles, homes, factories, malls, desalination plants, you name it, the list is endless.....we could wean ourselves off our destructive oil habit. That would be the most wonderful news in what has been , a terrible year for America. The economic, human and environmental benefits of such a technology would be bigger than we can imagine....

The pragmatic side of me doesn't expect Ginger to be anything so Earth-shattering, unfortunately.

    More idealism:

We did the Manhattan project in the 1940s which rapidly and successfully produced atomic bombs and nuclear energy. Maybe now, as the world runs short of fossil fuels, we could have a 21st century version of the Manhattan project, minus the secrecy, aimed at making energy production cheap, clean and plentiful. Many of the world's most important inventions originate here; American ingenuity is one our our greatest resources.

Hot damn! I remember the big ruckus about "it" a year or so ago.

I sure hope "it" lives up to "it's" hype.

    I think I almost don't care.

Anyone see the South Park about "IT". It was almost funny.

    Didn't see it.

I'm looking forward to finding out what "IT" actually is, some months after the hype surrounding it died.

When does anything ever live up to it's hype?

That's what is called marketing. We won't tell you what it is, you will all want one, then we release it and huh? then we realize that we have no or hardly any use for it at all.

I think "IT" will be some sort of alien brain parasite that takes over our minds and turns us all into slaves in preparation for the imminent invasion of a higher alien race.

I think you mean, "I sure hope it lives up to its hype." It's = it is. Its = possesive.

Weird that there was such a huge fuss about it when it was first revealed last year, and yet two weeks from it's* unveiling and there's hardly a peep?

    I'm prepared for disappointment.

[* Yes, it should be "its", but if "it" is its name, then "it's" is also correct.]

I thought it was already revealed that it was some sort of super scooter?
  • Reply 16 of 85
Thank you Belle. I was pretty certain I had the grammar right in this case (being that I used "it" as the name in that case).

Yes, people, I do know the difference between its and it's. [quote]I thought it was already revealed that it was some sort of super scooter?

Well, yes and no. IIRC, all that has been said is rumor and speculation. There's the super-scooter idea, the new energy source idea, and the new method of flight idea. Of course, I'm certainly no expert in this field... but who really is other than Mr. Kamen?
