Wait, so the standard for success is "didn't go out of business for not having the iPhone?" Isn't that setting the bar a little low?
Far from going out of business --- Verizon Wireless had the second highest net adds in the industry, with the higest gross margins. AT&T Wireless is buying market shares at the expense of lower profit margins.
You are projecting your personal feelings of AT&T on to everyone else. I see no evidence that people hate AT&T's business practices more than Verizon, they are all pretty well derided.
[...]
No one has said AT&T adding more subs than VZW this last quarter was a "massive business failure". In the larger picture its not really that big of a deal. The only reason we keep pointing it out is because you don't want to give AT&T credit for anything.
Excellent argument.

Don't you pooh-pooh Apple for having a higher profit margin than the industry average?
And I have to keep pointing out that you have to give credit to Verizon for only trailing AT&T in retail net adds by a mere 200K in a iphone launch full quarter. Which one should be given more credit --- Verizon is like Harry Potter, the boy who didn't die against you'd know who. Verizon is the carrier who didn't die against the you'd know what Jesus phone.
Of course you diminish AT&T's gains and promote Verizon's gains. Verizon makes 3.6 billion in revenue and AT&T makes 3.1 billion, you crow about how much better Verizon is doing. While in reality that 500 million isn't a huge difference.

Anyone says anything good about AT&T you like to throw around the fanboy term. No one else cheerleads for any carrier at the level you cheerlead for Verizon.

Yah, it's like he's that Verizon ad guy's mom or something.

No, I have never pooh-pooh Apple for having a higher profit margin. All my discussions about Apple's iphone profit margin is that having a second CDMA variant won't kill Apple's 50% gross profit.

VZW has $2 billion more revenue than AT&T Wireless in the last quarter ($15.8 billion and $13.7 billion respectively). VZW's operating income was $4.5 billion in the last quarter and AT&T Wireless' operating income was $3.4 billion in the last quarter.
