Anyone looking forward to the Lord of the Rings movies? I started the first book a long ass time ago but never got through it.
So I take it the first movie just does Fellowship of the Rings? That volume ends with no resolution at all, kind of like Empire Strikes Back. Not the way Hollywood likes movies to end. I hope they don't ruin it and out a happy ending on it. 'cause the book doesn't have one at all. From what I can tell from the LOTR movie sites they are doing a damn fine job of sticking to the story.
Each movie will come out the next year. Christmas 2001, 2002, 2003. They must be shooting the whole thing all along and editing it in Fellowship and the rest as the go.

I walked into Harry Potter flick with expectations unrealistically high and was disappointed for it.
I'll just think "la-dee-da" in regards to the LOTR and be satisfied by the flick.
I would hope that LOTR is an "adult movie". Considering how graphic the monsters are I think that will be the case. I hope the intended audience is adults.
I'd like to see it do well just because I like Peter Jackson. "Heavenly Creatures" is a great movie. I'm also happy that the studio allowed him to take on this task instead of handing it over to some "bigger" director. Chris Columbus would not have been my choice for Harry Potter.
Regarding the more "adult" nature of the movies, that would certainly seem to be the case from viewing the trailers, and is most certainly the case with the books.
I think it says a lot that the first two movies of the original Star Wars series were targeted at adults, whilst Return of the Jedi was shot with the popularity of the first two amongst kids in mind. Hence the Ewoks. Unfortunately, George Lucas has seen fit to continue this thinking with the new movies.
Speaking of grown-up stuff, I see there are going to be "adult" editions of the Harry Potter books... No, Harry isn't going to get to second base with Hermione... they just come in paperback with more grown-up covers.

Compare that with Harry Potter...which has grossed $200M in less than 2 weeks and Monsters, Inc. with $200M in 4 weeks.
For reference, $200M is not an easy mark to hit in the least. Look at how Pearl Harbor did...It did not break $200M.

i think the harry potter ones were fine for kids, but a know a ton of adults that want to see the lotr series.
for those of you that haven't read them, i'd give them a shot. they're better than you think.

I'm finding the Ents rather interesting. Rather odd creatures they are. I also have no base for what they should look like. So I would be neat to see what they come up with for the movie.
I'm from the Star Wars generation. I wonder if the reason we liked it so much was because the first movie was not made for kids. It's a "real" movie that doesn't talk down to you. Han Solo was a cold blooded killer. Yet he's a hero? What kids movie has that kind of idea?
I'm just rambling now.

I just watched that and didn't notice it. At the very least Guido (sp?) had his gun out. Guido shooting first makes no sence. He wanted Han alive. Also Jaba letting Han go doesn't compute either. You send a bounty hunter to get Han but then later you see Han, get trash talked by him, then let him fly off?
Lucas sucks and is a fat loser.

I meant they will show the parts from book II up to the ents. I haven't read all the ents part either so I have no idea what happens.
I think in Star Wars ( the reedited one ) Han convinces Jaba that he will repay him with the money he is going to get from taking Luke and Obi Wan somewhere ( I forgot where they went to ). That is why Jaba lets him go.

So in Empire he's on the frozen planet (how did he get there? why not repay Jaba right off?) and has to goto the Cloud City. I can't remember why.

I don't remember why Han was on the frozen planet ( named Goth? ). But I do remember he was going to leave to go repay Jaba when the empire attacked. I think he then felt guilty and helped them flee. What happened next? I don't remember. Boba Fett was probably after him in the end because Jaba felt Han was taking too long.
