Best Drum Leads

I am thinking about putting together a compilation CD for my listening pleasure and I would like all the tunes to have one thing in common: the lead instrument must be the drums.

I can think of 2 songs off the top of my head that I would want to include:

1. Soundgarden's "Jesus Christ Pose" from the BadMotorFinger album (Man, this guy knows how to punish those skins!

)

2. Miles Davis and Gil Evans' "Gone" from the Porgy and Bess album.

These are 2 very different songs but that doesn't matter to me--in fact, I would like to have a best drum leads collection disc that has all sorts of different types of music represented. I'm looking for tunes that have the drums as lead, not merely a great drum solo in the middle of the piece (although depending on the length of the solo I might consider it

).

So all you music freaks, get your thinking caps on, forget about guitars, horns and vocals, and let me know what you think the best drum lead songs are!

Primus - Spegetti Western (also heavily bassed, but then aren't all primus songs?)

Rush - YYZ (I think there are other instruments on this song but I never hear them. All I hear are Neil Peart's sticks

)

some early live Pearl Jam with Dave Abruzzese (spelling?) playing. He was amazing. Watch unplugged or Porch from SNL. he flies

I don't know if you happen to like their music, but RUSH has some excellent songs where Neil Pert has the "lead." Probably the greatest rock drummer there ever was...amazing. The only song title that comes to mind (I don't usually pay attention to the names) is New World Man (off of Signals). That drum lead kicks arse.

Speaking of the Beatles, what about Ringo's break in "Golden Slumbers"/"The End", right before the three-way guitar "duel"?

Spindler, I don't get the "Hard Day's Night" thing, though. What do you mean? I hear lots of cymbals and a cow bell. Is that what you mean?

"Ticket to Ride" has a pretty cool drum thing. Kinda lopsided and sputtering during the verses. By the way, that was Paul's idea.

I guess Ringo took his fair share of direction from the others, huh?

Oh, here's a VERY cool drum-based song:

"Teen Beat" by Sandy Nelson. A total oldie, but it's very cool. Probably early-mid 60's, I imagine.

I had it on some oldies compilation record YEARS ago when I was a little boy (actually, it was my mom's, but I listened to it more than she did) and I haven't heard it in years then one day, I noticed Mark & Brian were using it for background music on one of the repeating segments on their radio show. So now I hear it once a day.

And you can't forget "Wipe Out" by the Safaris. That's THE lead drum song.

Keith Moon was the finest drummer ever, My Generation and I Can See For Miles are virtually all solos.

Mapigator is an ok napster replacement, though it's a bit too Top40 to find rarer stuff
