This whole world is going to hell.

I'm going through some tough times personally. Then all this incredible, horrible and sickening chaos takes over...

Except for family and friends I feel very lonely. This day alone has me going into a tailspin. The Bin Laden tape, our withdraw from the ABM Treaty (no surprise really), Afghanistan, Israel vs. Palestine, Gunmen attack Indian Parliament (all of the Middle East going to Hell), Russian fighting, Africa rotting from AIDS and disease, etc, etc, and et al....

It's getting harder to focus on myself and where I'm going and who may be with me through all this. I'm at a loss today. Hopefully it'll pass and I can get back on with what I have to do. But this all can get too hard to take sometimes.

Where is it all going? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Please don't take offense to this but go see a shrink. Make sure it's a "real" one not the Dr Phil kind.

I know what you mean. Last month I felt the same way. I have only just started coming to grips with the fact that the WTC and everything else is beyond my control so I should just wait for our military to do their work and help out by being alert to any other possible threats. That and I read a LOT more news than I used to before.

The world is the same, but many of the people in it are beginning to see it differently. Stay calm, talk to someone about it (a shrink might be helpful) and live it one day at a time. That's my take FWIW.

Thanks Scott H for that advice. I have the incredible luck of having a friend who is a graduate from psychology this year and we have discussed a lot about the American and world situations and what it can entail with our own lives. I was only wondering if things like this have affected other lives.

I'm 41 years old. I've had great moments in my life and experienced pride and facination from what others have done in this world. But there have always been the bad. Martin Luther King was assassinated on my 8th birthday. Robert F. Kennedy, John Lennon... I watched carnage on TV in the Sixties and Seventies from Vietnam. I've seen some sick shit. Now, I see more than I can take.

Advice? Stop watching the news, start focusing on my goals in life. It sounds so simple but it's a hard job to do these days...

    Hang in there, Arty.

Been a rough year for me too and a rough fall for all of us in some sense. At least those who consider themselves human....But I wouldn't worry too much. You seem to be taking it OK just by virtue of the way you're describing things. You seem level-headed and honest and that's about all one can expect these days. That alone puts you ahead of a majority of our fellow citizens, or so it seems at times.

Either way, the world has always had its share of ugly human catastrophies, but I agree that things seem to get worse and worse. Does make you wonder sometimes if it's all going to come to head and result in a world war, or something similarly awful. So much greed and indifference to suffering in the world...I'd be more worried if it *didn't* affect you, know what I mean?

By the way she was good in Girl, Interrupted...she was playing herself.

Grab a good friend who is willing to talk politics. I find that this always helps, mind you I like to have friends who are strongly politically minded (did that even make sense? oh well).

As for the world going to hell, ya, you better beleive it. Were caught in times that are starting to remind me of 1984, yet all you ever hear is how "were coming together as a people". They dont mention that you dont really have much choice.

Theres static on TV and Jazz on the radio so to say.

For me this all started with the DMCA, it was the first change that really caught my attention in that it seemed to favor buisness over the people, the opposite of what government legislation should do. Then the WTC hit (or should I say got hit) and the rest of the structure fell apart.

So what? If they accuse me of being a terrorist in the states they can arrest, trial, and execute me without a jury of my peers eh?

Not that much better in Canada, now cops can arrest you for 72h with NO accusations. Of course we all know BC cops, yes the ones that peppersprayed peaceful protesters, yet there was no "real" inquiry (there was, but it was a puppet inquiry whos strings soon got cut) or actions taken.

Face it, right now you might as well considering moving to Sealand or some far out 3rd world country and getting into the Datavault industry

I simply turn off my TV and try to clear my mind. Perhaps I should dig up my Brian Eno collection.....

4 Months ago I was relaxing after spending a wonderful day on the beach in West Palm Beach Florida, it really does feel like a lifetime ago.

Since you guys mentioned Wynona...I got to wondering. Why in the hell would anyone who makes that much money feel the need to shoplift? She and her comrades can basically get whatever they want...all I can think of is attention, but then she's been in several high-profile movies the last year or so. I don't get it...

...see Artman, I told you you are in pretty good shape - even compared to Wynona Rider!

The world certainly is goiing weird.

Take some more history classes or do some reading, though. Right befrore WWII, the world was even weirder. I find the study of the 30's and 40s to be the most interestng of all history.

Im personally a beleiver in penulum patterns of time (cant remember the name of the beleif). Basically the world swings back and forth, its all gonna get really weird and 1984ish then there will be a war or revolution and it will turn back to being all hippyish, then well get back the comfortable medium.
