Why do people bother with illegal drugs?

    Haha...I'm a late-bloomer AND an early quitter!

I blasted up for the first time in my life at 30 years of age, after my divorce and living back in Nashville and hanging out with my degenerate musician friends and having a year-long "lost weekend".

That was three years ago and I've done it MAYBE twice upon my return to SoCal. The last time was a good 10 months or so and, to be honest, I don't see it happening again.

The opportunity never really presents itself, plus I'm not really looking for it either.

Never was a big part of my life anyway (took 30 years for me to even try it to begin with). I had enough goofy adventures, escapades and "experimentations" in that Nashville year that I think I got most of it out of my system, you know?

I can say honestly that I'm not curious about much these days. I did lots of things...and then some.

And it just isn't me, so...

DEFINITELY not the guy today I was three years ago.

Best damn reason for quitting I ever heard. I know that day will come. I didn't start until I was 20, which is pretty late by today's standards. Fortunately for me, I've yet to actually encounter any negative side effects, and frankly its helped my work here at art school.

It's not exactly out of my system yet, but I know can't be a stoner forever. Until that day comes though, I think I'll be a better man for having had the experience.

[quote]and don't try to make me feel like a loser for never having done drugs ... heck, i'm proud of my choice, but it's hard to take pride in it when even professional peers like to give you grief over never having gotten high.

I can respect that; I just wonder if you would have tried it if it weren't illegal. Most people I talk to who cite a list of reasons why they've never smoked, end up saying "yes" to that question. It's unfortunate that for some, an arbitrary law prevents them from doing something which, at least in my book, is something everyone should try at least a few times (not once...the first time always sucks!)

I do drugs because they taste great and are less filling. No, that can't be, since they are magically delicious, or are they just grrrrrreaaat? Perhaps they melt in my mouth, not in my hands. Hey! Kool-Aid! Well, around here, when quality is job one, we reach for the drugs 9 out of 10 teenagers recommend. We love to see you smile, so make it a Blockbuster night. Collect all 12. I'm scared, I'd better stay in the Honeycomb Hideout. Do not try this at home. Inflates in less than one minute.
