American Airlines Flight 63

The story about this is here if you haven't read it: <a href="http://www.boston.com/news/daily/22/plane_diverted.htm"; target="_blank">http://www.boston.com/news/daily/22/plane_diverted.htm</a>;

The Flight attendents on this plane definitely did a good job in discovering this man had a bomb in his shoes. Imagine what could have happened if it had gone undetected for maybe even a half an hour more?

What's worse is this question: How many more are there out right now, on planes? Was this an isolated incident, or a planned attack like September 11?

Was it designed solely to remind Americans that we are still at war, and that travelling for the holidays by plane isn't as safe as you'd want to believe? Or was it just some nut who was going to kill himself any way and wanted to take a bunch of people with him on his way out?

This is truly a disturbing story. It's one of the worst I've heard since September 11.

Although the guy has a British passport and name they say he looked Arab/middle eastern. Of course the NYT leaves that out of their reporting. His passport looks fake and is said to have been issued three weeks ago in Belgium.

I guess there's no reason not to think this guy is another bin Ladenite. Another Jihadista from the arab-muslim world?

I can't find any reports that can say anything about his ethnicity positively. These places are reporting that authorities are investigating whether he was of middle-eastern descent? Not sure what they mean, all seems ambiguous.

    Another tidbit from the <a href="http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/world/americas/newsid_1725000/1725627.stm"; target="_blank">BBC</a>:

"It emerged that earlier this month, the US authorities warned airliners of the possibility that hijackers might try to hide weapon components in their shoes."

Good thing those guys could be smarter. I mean, what if he had gone into the bathroom and done it there instead of in his seat? Kaboom.

Gotta find the positive in everything. So glad nothing serious happenend.

Any planes going down would be bad enough, but, God, could you imagine if flights had to be grounded NOW?

It also seems that this same guy tried to take the same flight on Friday, and backed out at the last minute.

They're saying the French authorities stopped him the first time but didn't get what he was up to.

The police are saying that it was for real explosives. Now they are making everyone take off their shoes and run them thru the scanner. I'm glad I'm not in those lines. At least those paranoid travelers will have a chance to use their gas masks.

It seems to be only in Boston that they are doing that. "Please arrive at the airport 10 hours before your flight and bring latex gloves." Ouch!

It's a little more wide spread than that. They are doing it here at SeaTac airport. Evidently not too many people are complaining. They must want to arrive at where they are going without having to overcome someone lighting their shoes on fire. It does point out that there are a number of terrorists still out there - connected to others or on their own that are willing to give their life to make a statement. It also points out the fact that we all, worldwide, will have to continue to be observent on what is going on around us. <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

Actually, you don't have to arrive 10 hours early because no one is flying out of Logan. After all of the security problems at Logan, would you go there?

Seriously though. Manchester Airport in Manchester, NH is getting much more traffic than they usually get over the holiday season. It's supposed to have shorter lines, tighter security, and cheaper flights. Why bother with Logan at all?

Well, I'll be flying in a couple days, so I'll see if the airport "security" will check my super cool slave labour manufactured nikes.
