Whoa. We'll get it too, don't worry. As far as the 3G models go, it's also up to carriers here (like Rogers), not just Apple. Apple is currently in talks with Rogers, so we'll get it, not to worry. Shouldn't take too long.
Wow, is demand ever high for this thing!
No, the only thing that is high right now is the pre order hype. The fact that people were saying yesterday the Apple Store would be crashing and right now its blazing fast I would say the demand is rather low.
Not many are going to pre order something that they haven't even seen.
The ignore feature is a wonderfull thing. It cuts the inane chatter down to just what others are suckered into quoting and responding to. Not perfect but certainly thins out the worthless trolling.
It would be nice if the mods would do their job and nuke the obvious trollers tho
Perhaps it is something we could do ourselves. If we all started by listing our ignored trollers and didn't respond to them directly or indirectly, we just might be able maintain a sense of decorum.
The limit is actually 2 per model, not 2 per customer. I just ordered 2 x 16GB WiFi and 2 x 32GB WiFi. Those that want more than 2 of one model are out of luck, but otherwise, you can get more by getting different models. I suppose it's possible that you could order 12 by getting 2 of each, but I didn't try it.

That is an illogical conclusion. Servers not crashing doesn't equate to orders being low. Do you realize how much business Apple does in a day just from their iTS? Even is there were millions iPad orders (which I'm sure there are not) that would barely make a dent.
As for the purchase before seeing/using comment, that is very true for most buyers.
It just amazes me how much demand Apple has for a device that most people have not touched. I'm not complaining. I just think its a huge testament to people's faith in Apple's ability to deliver a quality product. I wish more companies would follow Apple's lead and work hard to deliver the best product possible. People will throw money at you to get it.
I wish I was one of the people placing a pre-order this morning. Unfortunately, I'll have to save my money until I can get one. if not for this slight lack of funds, I would have placed my order for a 32Gb version the moment the store opened.
My 32Gb would be for the 3G version. Yes, I know it wouldn't be available until late April. But it would make me feel good just knowing I was on the list for getting one.

Not all agrees with you. For example,

Based on order ID numbers, Andrew Erlichson, CEO of photo sharing website Phanfare, thinks Apple could be selling 20,000 iPads an hour, which suggests iPad sales of around $10 million per hour today," Jay Yarow reports for The Business Insider.

The server crashing was a joke based on another members comments. The rest of my post was however rather logical.
Its a bandwagon type thing; like belonging to a club. It is the same motivation as that which inspires folks to wear logoed clothing or list their purchases in their sigs.
Typically it is a yearning of folks who want to think the same, rather than think different.
They feed off of getting our goat. Basically, we put them in solitary and eventually they would either go away, change their attitude or end up talking to themselves. Works for me.
Apple's (still) saying it won't work with Tiger. At least it doesn't require Snow Leopard, CS3 doesn't work with SL well (last I heard - from everywhere), but I'm using CS3 with Leopard at the office just fine.
Granted I have a few weekends to procrastinate all the hard-drive housekeeping I need to do (bootable clone, backup, move iphoto and itunes libraries, upgrade, pray it went ok - test, restore files).
Blech ack and pthew.
This is why I'm looking forward to the iPad as a whole. Enough of these moronic IT chores. If I wanted to be in the IT department, I'd be working there already. Autobackup on iTunes - backup purchases and the occasional library clone to an external drive / cloud account - freaking done.
Oh well - at least they still did the same reserve system as my iPhone GS - that reserve system rocked. Nerd lines CAN be fun - but I'd rather just pick-up and play.
While I agree, you guys also need a policy for folks that consistently and imperviously detract from every thread by repeating the same negative thing again and again.
Your call, lundy et. al. But I sure hope you'll do something about guys like the iGenius and the TEKSTUDs that regularly hijack many of these threads and make it an unreadable joke.
I couldn't agree more, but I wouldn't count on it. Over the last year or so I have watched with sadness the increased activity of posters like Tekstud & iGenius (who may even be one in the same, or not) continue to hurl insults at Apple and blame Apple for just about everything that's wrong in this world without any mod stepping in .... altho, in tk's case it seems he finally got banned, for the second time. Surprisingly enough 'tho, Lundy found time to ban AdrianL after 1 post only because he/she had the audacity to, correctly IMHO, identify iGenius as an idiot.
Appleinsider has been working its way to the bottom of my top sites and I think it's about time for me to find an Apple fansite where the mods do a better job of screening out out trolls .... perhaps new mods are necessary, I don't know what the answer is but I know I've "enloyed" as much of this as I can stand .... time to say good luck to the rest of you and goodbye.

The sad thing is he left after iGenius was banned. For the record, I agreed with the sentiment - just not the timing of the lament.

In addition, Macrumors has pointed out that iPad web site has been updated
Quote:
As information on the iPad continues to spill out from Apple in the wake of the launch of pre-orders in the U.S., more screenshots and feature information on iWork applications for the iPad have surfaced on Apple's site. Announced alongside the iPad's introduction in late January, iWork for iPad will offer multi-touch versions of Apple's Keynote, Pages, and Numbers productivity applications priced at $9.99 each through the App Store.
While I agree that it is the right of an individual to be able to post comments,
Well actually, given that this forum is "private property", no one has a "right" to post here at all except the owner and those of whom he/she grants permission. As is the case with most forums, that permission comes with a set of qualifications (rules).
I honestly wouldn't get worked up about people who don't like Apple. It's pretty clear that Jobs doesn't need them to be successful and the customers who are served by Apple and Apple's products don't need them. Really, the only way they can rain on someone's parade is if that someone LETS them. Otherwise they are powerless.
As long as there is an Ignore option, it should be easy to NOT let them rain on one's parade.

RUMOR: Apple hit with ‘overwhelming’ iPad orders; Apr. 3 in-store pickup in jeopardy for new orders

Perhaps Apple's $billion server farm is a lot further along than we know. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hDXSSi1qStA (Posted Feb 19, 2010)

Is this a new announcement just made? I haven't heard anything about a 2 iPad limit..

As well, the Apple has outlined the Best Way to Get Connected particularly as it pertains to 3G and AT&T http://www.apple.com/ipad/3g/
it was open at 8:30am EST
i finished and my order went through at 8:32am
received my order confirmation at 8:42am
i decided to order a second one
got the order confirmation for that one 1:41pm
so 5 hours later
the difference in order numbers is about 59,000 units
so about 12K an hour?
not bad
