Ok, this is a little off topic but where is the breaking news of the HP Slate specs???
We are subjected to news of Microsoft products and AI's excuse is "because they are competition to Apple" but then something like the HP Slate (which is competition to the iPad) has it's specs leaked and there's not a single word here.
Could AI be anymore obvious that they post MS articles so everyone can join in on bashing them and not really add anything substantial to the discussion?
If anyone cares, the specs don't look too appealing on the hp slate. It's basically a netbook with a touchscreen instead of a keyboard, and a custom hp ui running on windows 7. Also, 5 hours of battery life.
Now that I know the specs of the HP Slate, I am honestly looking at the iPad closer.
I think there were probably more investment dollars put into the iPad than you are indicating. It is much more than an upscaled iPhone/iPod Touch. Neither of those devices have the A4 processor. That alone probably involved a lot of R & D dollars. Just speculating...
It will probably take a while to get a clearer picture of the production costs. As far as "break-even" costs, that is a whole different question.
Interesting that you should mention the Palm Pre, since it and Palm are most likely going to go down the tubes. They obviously haven't weathered the smartphone wars very well.
I'm assuming you've yet to see a web optimised newspaper, let alone one for the 'pad. there are already 13 and 15 models, they're in the laptop range. Go buy one of those. re. the general public, my mum can't wait to have one of these things - she's never had a desktop or a laptop, she knows nothing about computers, yet she wants one. So the general public seem to like this device? Every technophobe I know wants one of these things - only anecdotal evidence I know, but then yours is just opinion...
I would just hope that Apple would introduce the whole range of models instead of testing the market with a small screen model and introducing a better, bigger screen model next year. A font facing camera and a large enough screen are important to some buyers, not everyone, I'm sure. Of course, teenagers with good eyes who buy iPhones won't mind the small screen of either the iPhone or the iPad.
And yes, I was voicing my opinion in the hope that, possibly, it would encourage Apple to do the right thing right now before Apple looses too much market share to competitors who will come with a selection of screen sizes and features, not just a "one size fits all" tablet.
I had in mind the 3 year drought during which Apple failed to introduce a quad-core desktop CPU iMac. Now that Apple has introduced the Core i5 and i7 iMacs, it is a runnaway success (and I bought one because Apple offered just the computer I wanted to buy with my hard earned money).
The iPad is too small! I'm waiting for the 13 and 15 inch models which would allow me to actually read newspapers on the internet without pinching back and forth for every article. Which company will be the first to provide me and millions of buyers with a 15 inch tablet equipped with a front facing camera?
A note to Apple marketing: While you "are proud of what you don't put in an iPad", I'm paying for what is actually in the iPad. If you don't include a front facing camera, you don't get my money.
Finally, I included a quote from AppleInsider because it encapsulates Apple's problem. What is especially telling is that only 26% of iPad buyers are Windows users and only 34% don't already own an iPhone. It's called preaching to the converts as opposed to expanding the brand and the market share for Apple products.
This is one more illustration that Apple products are not made for the general public, but to please and enrich Steve Jobs. A 4% world market share after 34 years of existence is not the hallmark of genius, but a sign of failure brought about by arrogance, self importance and greed.
Hopefully, Apple will not wait a year before it brings to market what the market wants, i.e. a bigger tablet computer which allows buyers to actually read the content of newspapers published on the internet.
The iPad is too small. Bring on the 13 and the 15 inch models!
It's apparent you've done no research before posting. Again.

At least make a real effort when you're trolling.
One product launch and you can expect 2 to 3 predictions from him, 300K, 600 to 700K and then finally back to 300K.
