This will happen. Remember the iWalk? That's your Hip-based computer! It all makes sense! Sort of....

    My head hurts!

If Steve and Steve get togather, it will be RELIGIOUS!

Except that it doesn't go beyond where PCs have gone before...it's quite the opposite!

Of course, this announcement along with plenty of others would be enough. Not to be greedy or anything.

About this product, it wouldn't be able to connect to a Powerbook via IRDA by any chance, would it? Or perhaps via USB into an iBook? And if it could, would it give wireless web access to all portable macs? At what speeds?

    Irda? Yes

    USB? Yes

    1394b maybe?

    Airport?

    MP3?

    Phone?

"e-World"? (ouch) or "iWorld" I guess...

    hard drive?

OS X? (I doubt it, although there is a Linux based PDA out there) Maybe a Darwin-based OS with "Aqua, Jr."

    Messaging peer to peer

    Satallite ISP

    Blackberry email sequrity?

All this adds up to Apple being a "Microsoft"-buing up companies all over the place!

My only real problem with this scenario is that Steve Jobs has said that Apple isn't interested in "internet lite" or something like that. Although I do think Apple needs a product that they can charge a monthy fee for since they've probably got 5 million people willing to pay $20 a month for, whatever it is...that's a lot of dough.

Apple did announce, at about the same time the iPod was introduced, that they would be making an acquisition, and that it was related to the digital hub idea.

does anyone remember the keynote, i think it was when steve announced he was dropping the "i" from "iCEO", and Woz was present, and stated through some wet eyes that "it was just like the old days..."

man-o-man, at the time, i thought if they could just bottle that RDF, steve could give up on this whole computer thing.

He didn't really define "Lite" though. Maybe audio capability might make it useful....and the iPod proves OSX is not a prerequisite for a product.

nope, but i've got some pretty massive bandwidth at work, and a studio manager that will be just as interested as i am in what gets announced (as it will affect the new computer the company is buying him!)

side note: i wish toronto transit was a little more direct to apple canada -- i went to see the wwdc where they announced mac os 9, and it took me nearly TWO HOURS to get there by public transit! :o

Heh. If the Woz came back to Apple, i can see the entire audience weeping hysterical tears of joy.

    I would

Hmm.. looking at the Danger device.. its, uhh.. interesting I guess, but it uses the cell network for net access ... I can't see people being terribly eager to pay per minute to do instant messaging, not to mention having to leave their current cell provider to be able to use this device. I think the late 90's tought most companies that devices that combine crappy digicams, so-so organizers and bulky cell phones do not fly off the shelves. I guess having woz back would be hip, but I'd be a little bummed out of this was the device that apple's been hyping.
