No wonder with a 'news' station like this we are hated in the muslim world. sigh.

I do think Al-Jazeera should have released the tape, but I do not understand how this is a pro-terrorism gesture. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Have they ever revealed how they receive these tapes?

That may be considered aiding and abetting terrorism by holding such info back.

"The U.S. government will lead the American people in -- and the West in general -- into an unbearable hell and a choking life."

I beleive that this statment speaks for its self

Well basically the tape shows that OBL admits he is the mastermind behind the attacks and AJ didn't want the rest of the muslim world to reach for the same conclusion.

Seems this tape has floated around until yesterday. Tony Blair quoted from it a few months ago. And don't think the White House hasn't seen it until yesterday either.

Saudi Arabia is to me the most nefarious, secretive muslim nation of them all. Who finances terrorism? Who harbors terrorists? Who has a news agency that holds imformation from western nations and is biased towards them? Saudi Arabia.

Until we can break our hold on the need for Saudi Oil we will have to handle them some other way...how about...

Perhaps if it was held back from the U.S. government (we do not know), but CNN?

I don't understand? Are you agreeing with OBL or using this as an example of how he's wrong?

There's no doubt that Jihad TV (aka Al-Jazeera) has a major interest in keeping terrorism going. They get most of their rating that way. Violence in the Gaza Strip and West Bank means big time revenue for Jihad News Network (JNN). They distort the news and hide coverage so as to make the terrorist cause seem glamorous and keep people watching. If the arab world were to see real coverage on all of this from both sides they might have a different opinion about what all of this Jihad and violence is costing them.

I dont know, but this seems almost too perfect a statment. I dont like to be a conspiracy theorist (Ok, I do, but I dont like to beleive them), but theres almost an unreal cartoon super villany here. This whole incedent (911) really reminds me of some bad comic book, you have "The [muslim] Evil doers" who "Hate freedom" saying statments like the previously stated, trying to "destroy freedom" by attacking the western world.

To tell you the truth this really reminds me of the cold war, where we had to go into places like Vietnam in order to prevent the spread of evil that is communism from reaching the rest of the world.

Now throw in that Osama has a couple of things right, immediatly after the attacks there was the patriot act, the introduction of Carnivore, a scaling up of the powers of the police, FBI, and CIA, the introduction of DMCA part deux (what was it called? IAAA or something? And what ever happened to it? Did it get passed?), the media.... dont get me started on the media, you just cant trust TV any more... or could you ever?and a definate 'bout of "Americans giving up their freedoms in order to protect their freedom" (Likened by a Canadian satirist to burning the siding on your house in order to keep warm).

Now of course, where should we direct the hatred of these actions? The man who attempted to, quote "...lead the American people in -- and the West in general -- into an unbearable hell and a choking life."

Ok, maybe I went too far with the last statment, but surely you can see the catoonish things going on here, its unreal.

Add on the US branding the enemies of the countries that they backing "Terrorists" (they are unde the definition of Terrorism, but then again so is the FBI and Police)

Wow, another smoking gun. How many is that now? It does not matter, it will not change any opinions in this debate. Either people believe America is justified in its actions or they do not.

I guess you could call it unreal. But 9-11 was very real. Real people died and a real terrorist hiding in a cave did it. His real goal is to kill us and end our civilization. He said so himself. You may not take him seriously but we do. His mad ranting may come off as cartoonish. He is not some Red Scare boogy man made up to justify defense spending though.

Many hoped that 9-11 would be the end of cynicism. Too bad it wasn't.

I do think Toolboi is trying to say quite what you imply. Remember, a border only means so much, Most sane people don't believe that if the U.S. was 'destroyed' the rest of the world -- Canada especially -- would be just fine. This problem involves all of us. The events of 9/11 affected EVERYONE in the 'civilized' world.

Then maybe they should act like it and take this effort more seriously. If you read the London press you'd get the impression that the US is the real danger in the world.

So, Toolboi, you think this tape is a fabricated US conspiracy like everything else?

You are way too paranoid, my friend.

For those of you saying that it was pro-bin-Laden to not air this tape, remember that it was the Bush administration who was pressuring our networks to NOT air these kinds of tapes. Ironically, Al-Jazeera was airing both Bush statements and bin Laden statements to the Arab world, while American TV was "censored."

<a href="http://www.cnn.com/2002/US/02/01/cheney.al.jazeera/index.html"; target="_blank">Now, it seems that Cheney put pressure on Qatar,</a> where Al-Jazeera is based, to stop airing bin Laden.

Still think it was pro-terrorist to decline to air this?

well, by looking at how the content of the tape would indicate that OBL is somewhat blood thirsty and definitly not disavowing the killing of innocent people . . .I would guess that they might not have wanted their poster child to be seen in that light . . .the light of day.
