That's not true in a "seller's" market. When I moved to Palo Alto, in 1971, average houses were on the market for 3 days. I looked at houses, for about a week. Then flew my wife in for the final selection... All the houses I selected were sold before she even got to see them.
I don't recall the exact figures, but according to studies we spend less time in deciding on a home purchase than in making any other major buying decision. Something like a few hours on average. The house we live in now, we saw for the first time on Sunday and were in escrow on Tuesday. If we'd waited any longer we'd have lost it -- and this was not even in a "seller's market."
ok, so either Apple's website is lying or At&t has a special voice plan for the iPhone...because when going to check the current voice rates, Apple's webiste shows $69/mo for the basic plan (450 plan) but the At&t site shows the 450 plan at $39/mo. Which one is correct? or is the iP4 on a special voice plan?
EDIT: apple's site states the rate plan includes ULIMITED DATA at $69/mo at 450 plan.

Dick Applebaum: You don't even know him.

Apple said in a press release that the total was "far higher than we anticipated, resulting in many order and approval system malfunctions. Many customers were turned away or abandoned the process in frustration."
The company continued, "We apologize to everyone who encountered difficulties, and hope that they will try again or visit an Apple store or carrier store once the iPhone 4 is in stock."
Am I the only one who thinks this is total bullshit?
"far higher than we anticipated?"
Had I read "Apple deliberately short-stocked their order system anticipating a crash and subsequent tremendous amount of media hype as a result, sending people in droves to the brick and mortar stores on release day..."
I could at least lean back and say "well done, Apple..."
But this bullshit? Come on. Just don't LIE to me, for fuck's sake...

this is by far the best post on appleinsider. ever.
the song lyrics though are a close second...wow you guys are a fun bunch
I'm kinda surprised people seem to be taking the removal of the 'unlimited' (not really) data plan and replacing it with a 2G plan. Maybe it's me but even if I were to 'almost always' fly in under the 2GB cap ... I'd have that one month that would sneak up on me and I'd be zonked with an insane overage fee.
'Unlimited' while clearly an inaccurate term, has a certain level of comfort and taking it away (I would have though) would have given many iPhone customers pause.
I wonder this... How many of that 600k are NEW customers?
Anyone know anything (official or otherwise)?
overages? have you read the details of the plan?
if you go over 2GB of data, they will automatically up you that month in 1Gb increments at $10 each... none of this 25 cents a mb crap of yesteryear. Up to 2gb, $25. 3G $35... 4GB 45... etc.. you just start at 2gb and don't pay more unless you use it.

recycle... a iPhone, even an old one.. can fetch a pretty good price, rather than just "recycling" it.

wow is that true? I thought everyone was supposed to cry and yell and get hand outs from the government...
simple explanation behind this. I just learned from a coworker that all the iphone 1st gen phones no longer sync because apple deemed them "unsupported hardware" hahaha. So all your 1st gen adopters that have been eyeing an upgrade now have the ultimate reason to finally bite the bullet and get the upgrade. Same things going to happen next year for the 3Gs but you'll see even bigger sales because it will be coming from those unit sales which were obviously much greater than the original iphone sales.
I want to get 4 of em - not sure I can afford it just yet - but I have an original iPhone 2G that needs to be replaced - and considering one for the wife and my parents are both considering iPhone as their first smartphone ever and getting onto my plan.
Where, oh, where are the articles from the pundits explaining how this is a bad thing and how every other phone manufacturer is actually doing better than Apple?
How on Earth does Apple justify charging the same for an iPhone 3GS as they do an iPad Wi-Fi? It can't possibly cost more than half that of an iPad with a 10" screen, A4 processor, and 16GB of Memory.
C'mon! You know that tech tends to increase in price as it gets smaller. You know the Phone's display has 78% of the number of pixels the iPad's display has while being 1/8 the size. You can look at iFixit's teardown of the IPad and Gizmodo's teardown of the iPhone 4 to see that the engineering of the logic board is more more intense and therefore assume more costly than the iPad.

BTW, June is a great month for Futurama fans. The series starts backup with all new episodes on Comedy Central starting on June 24th.
The USA will likely be on iOS 4.0.1 at least, before you will see these for sale in Canada.
Heck... The US will probably be on iOS 4.0.1 by the 4th of July holiday. There is just no way that testing can catch everything that tens of millions of users will do. I would be surprised if there isn't a 4.0.1 point release within the first 2 weeks of availability. This isn't a knock at Apple, just the nature of the beast on a major OS upgrade.
My order waived the upgrade fee even though I am not at two years until Nov 2010. Not sure why they waived it but I'll take it.
They waived the Upgrade fee for all 3 of my orders. Two were 1G iPhones so clearly those were out of contract. The other was a replacement of a 3GS which cost me $699.00 + the guvnuh. I was surprised about the latter but after dropping $699.00 who cares about $18.
Doesn't this just show how easily led consumers are in this country? Has anyone even touched one of these things before pre-ordering it blindly? Giving AT&T upwards of $2200 in total for a 2 year contract without touching the thing let alone seeing the bugs that arise, etc with the hardware and software update is insane.
How exactly is this insane? Yes this is a new hardware platform, and yes iOS 4 is a major software updated, but Apple has a well proven track record here. I would be much more likely to believe a significant issue might arise on the software side, but that's something that Apple is readily able to resolve via a software update.
Blind faith is one of the most exploitable features corporations and governments see in the human race. Use your brains and never trust anything - not your priest, not your president and certainly not a profit driven corporation that enslaves its workforce worldwide.
1) What's $90 a month x 24 months? Plus $199? Grab a calculator!
You can't count the monthly fee because you're gonna pay it regardless of who's smart-phone you might end up with. It's like claiming your new car cost you $28,000 because you have to put $2,000 worth of gas in it each year for the four year life of the loan on top of the $20,000 sticker price of the car. It just doesn't work that way. Your car cost you $20,000 just like your phone cost you $199. The monthly fee that comes along with using either of those things is just a fact of life.
It's not exactly free (You have to pay a 10% restocking fee).
When I originally bought my 3G back in July of '08, I returned it within 14 days and got a full refund (no restocking fee). Granted, not everyone will get a deal like that, but I bet if you were really dissatisfied with the iPhone 4, you could probably talk your way out of paying the restocking fee. In any case, $30 is still a far sight better than being out $300 (or $200).
horrible argument. you can go many times into a house you are keen on buying and see it for as long as you want (or as long as the Realtor allows). You also do research on the community, schools, public transport, restaurants, bars, etc. This is a pre-order of a phone that hasn't existed 1 month in the public sphere that costs over $2200 that people are buying impulsively rather than trying it out first hand.
Working in a job has nothing to do with paying for a product.
I hope you never need a heart or kidney transplant. Pretty sure you would never go for that seeing as how you can't take it for a test drive first.
DOH... I did it yet again. Must resist urge to feed troll.
