Why should Steve allow you to ruin the UX on his device?

They need to put the OS on a Quantum Entanglement Drive with every iOS device out there having entangled drives to match so that they just have to update their local QED and everyone immediately has the updates! http://colossalstorage.net/home_entangled.htm

I had to go back and search around the site for the 64 bit version.

I assume that Apple does not carefully check the client.

Your talking about iTunes for Windows, right?

I see myself looking in to iP4 upgrade around the end of the year. Prices stabilize, inventory gets predictable, iOS4 (in white!) will be on my iPad.

(OT warning) I see the B&N nook dropped to $200 today, with a wifi only one $150. Got one for my spouse for the last holiday, and they are cool - I expect those devices to ultimately be distributed for free. Really - a direct tie in to your core bookstore business? Ability to buy at the touch of a button? I'd want to give those away. The more people that have that one trick pony the better. Watch for "free nook with the purchase of 10 books" offers (or similar) soon.

I'm glad they made it "legal' to give away the update seeing as how they can probably can get more money from those buying iOS 4.0 apps for it.

Job announced during the WWDC 2010 that they were allowed/able to change their accounting process and the new software updates for iPods (which qualify) would now be free.

Steve (and Apple) are free to do whatever they want. The device is MINE once I buy it from them though. One thing I've always LOVED about Apple though is there 2 year free update policy...

LIke I said, I had the original iPhone... I loved getting all the updates through 3.0....I had friends who jailbroke the orignal iPhone and multitasking on the phone ran just fine... Things like the wallpaper and bluetooth sych though really SHOULD have been included, there's no reason not to. Again, Apple can do whatever they want, but I think it's in their interest to maintain their IMMENSE customer loyalty...It's something you can depend on...Android phones seem to all get upgrades on a different schdule...Original Droid owners had to wait MONTHS (was it as many as 6 months?) to get the latest software.

Just saying I hope Apple doesn't change direction here...

    You just blew my mind.

My point was that it is likely that Apple is again butchering the language in a misleading manner, and you jump in to justify the suspected butchering.

"The question is," said Alice, "whether you can make words mean so many different things."

"The question is," said Humpty Dumpty, "which is to be master - - that's all."

Yes. I was surprised at the single button, but even more surprised that it served the wrong file.

But isn't the current direction to restrict user choice in favor of a standard UX? I thought that was what you DIDN'T like.

I think you mean that you WANT Apple to change direction, so that you will be able to use "your" machine the way you want to use it, rather than the way that Apple wants you to use it.

If they changed direction, for example, they might allow multitasking on your device, with an option to turn it off. But that is NOT the current Apple way of doing things, nor does it seem to me to be the direction apple is going.

i thought it had that list down the side with checkboxes for receiving apple promotional offers and stuff, with a small download button below that.

also a tiny little "iTunes for windows?" (or something like that) link at the bottom.

    thats at http:www.itunes.com/download anyway

    3. Apps should be ready first. The damn app store should be 4.0 ready before they even flip the switch today, as its completely false advertising. Nothing will work as advertised today, and ill be uselessly complaining to Apple about how they have no concept or concern for what's best. They did this with the iPad when developers had a lukewarm reaction to the SDK, and now it seems 4.0 has failed to garner much attention either. The majority of devs of the 225,000 apps are content to sit tight and count de moné with their 2.2.1 compatible apps.
