Eh? Its a serious question. Since we can see police pictures of Bill Gates, OJ etc. I figured that the police had to give them if the press or anyone else asked for them.
The reason I asked is because that prisoner #21047/112 is a danish citizen who the public haven´t seen in over 20 years. He was captured by customs in LA a couple of weeks ago on the demand of the danish police. <a href="http://www.bakersfield.com/local/story/768688p-820799c.html"; target="_blank">Here</a> is a rather misunderstood article about it (Denmark socialist country? <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" /> )
Erm. . . I consider it to be a socialist country, along with just about every other Western European nation. Since socialism is a subjective term in most regards, I could call the US socialist and not be incorrect.

EU is not a country.
The only industry that is really subsidized here in Denmark is farming and farming is only a very small percentage of our GNP.
EU doesn´t like that practice. They are cutting back on it. Most likely because of the new member states we get next year. It would be really expensive if they were to subsidize their farmers.
Denmark is most certainly a capitalist country. We don´t have state owned factories, power plants etc, farming etc.

To answer your question Anders about the police giving out arrest information...they give the press anything about a celebrity arrest. Unless the performer's agent pays them off. Even controversial arrests will be announced. Free publicity for the police and may lead to more clues to the investigation. They like to send arrest reports to newspapers for DUI (Driving Under the Influence) all the time. But if you are a celebrity, politician or drunk behind the wheel...forget it...you're dead meat. You have no right to privacy...unless you're a minor.

Yes (half the GNP is paid in direct or indirect taxes) and expensive. I´m a student so I only "earn" about $1000 per month at the moment. I pay about a fourth in direct income tax (is progressive so the first $500 or so isn´t taxed) and then 25% in VAT. Then I pay $400 for the loans on my apartment. Prices is a bit more expensive than in US due to the VAT. So living here is not cheap.
But on the other hand the $1000 is what I get for being a uni-student (beside free education from kindergarden to university level) (to be fair I have to say that the $1000 is double the norm. Its because I didn´t get anything my first year in Uni)
And on top of that I get $250 in low interest loans.
Nobody but nobody work for less than $10/hour not even at McDonalds or as a cleaner. I once worked for Coca-Cola sorting their recycle bottles for $15/h. Perhaps 90% of my colleges were immigrants and thats a clear signal that it was a low status job (just to give you an idea of the wage). So the higher salary makes up for the higher cost.

Its really not (or it is but I tried to understand the US way of doing things and I found it more confusing than ours).
Its partly hundred year old habits of doing things (health care to anyone is a very old principle), Cold war politics (keep the people satisfied and they won´t turn red) and Keynes inspired economic policy from the 70´s. And also a focus on freedom to choose what kind of life (and esp. what kind of education) you want to have despite your bagground (thats partly the explanation for our educational system. Despite the fact that it make it easier for children of non-privileged parents to get an education it doesn´t always give them a better chance to get one than the US system (those who know Bourdieu knows why))
Sorry about the initial skepticism, Anders. It's just that in some of the message boards I've been in lately I've been getting a lot of shtick from scandinavians in general about american policy in general.
