    Actually, that was part of why i posted. it sure does give that impression. Anyone want to go that road with it? I don't know enough about the freedom corps to have an opinion yet. Hope it is just like it sounds. A way to get people to help other people.

    That's exactly what came to my mind when I first heard of it. "Nazi Youth" and such.

    While this does sound somewhat similar to Lenin's Pioneers and the Young Octobrists, those were both youth organizations aimed at raising children to be good party members. This is somewhat different. While I have no doubt that the freedom corps and the pioneers share some common goals like shaping people into good "patriots" and ardent supporters of the government, it's not nearly as insidious because it's not specifically targeting children. Because of this it seems more like it would be trying to take the role of the Communist Party as opposed to the Pioneers.

    If any sort of youth organization comes around, I'd definitely be worried though.

    A very good point. So has anyone actually called them up? Anyone joined or volunteered?

    Anyone bother to read the web site for this. Or are we all just going to spout off ignorant bullshit?

    Yes I looked at the web site, which is why what I said was only a joke.

    It looks like there is an oppportunity to do god things with, for, and alongside of your own community.

    --at least that's how its being packaged.

    (just a note: I always assume that whatever the Image Makers are up to, as far as defining the parameters of what we percieve, whatever they are doing they are doing very well and probably at one remove from each of our abilities to percieve their manipulations . . . but of course this has nothing to do with the stuff in this thread)

    {after edit}

    also, the Peace Corps is seen by many on the left not as such a good thing but rather as a subtle form of cultural and political Imperialism. I don't say this though. . . on this I have no opinion . . I imagine it could be true sometimes and wrong others

    I read the site. Now I am wondering if anyone else has an opinion on it. Looks overall to be a good thing, but just because a website says it is good does not mean it necessarily is. That is why I am wondering if anyone has volunteered or called them...
