Are Mac users "natural Democrats"?

Posted:
in General Discussion edited January 2014
In the current (March) issue of funky Mac magazine MacAddict, the cover disc includes an interview with electronic musician and Mac fiend BT (Brian Transeau). During this interview he opines that Mac users are natural Democrats (in the party political sense), and claims that Steve Jobs loved it when he ran this line by the black polo-necked one. Is it just me or have I not seen much evidence to support this assertion on the AI boards....

Well, not only is Jobs a Democrat, but so is Bill Gates. So take that for what you will. Plus, Dubya has been seen before with a PowerBook.

I don't know... I know a TON of Mac users that are Republicans and I am myself a Republican.

I HAVE noticed a large majority of Dems on the AI boards though.

Mac users fancy themselves creative. Creative people tend to gravitate towards socialism. The Democratic party is the lazy man's party for socialism.

Makes sense, eh? Generalizations are fun.

I make Pat Buchanan look like Hillary Clinton so, no, not all Mac users are democrats.

Clinton used Macs too, and I think Gore as well.

I always thought that Mac users were largely those of us who wanted to "think different" and were a bit opposed to corporate, "windroid"-mentality right wing views, so I wouldn't be surprised if more Mac users were Democrat-affiliated than not. Then again, you'd think that if it were true we were such individualists, that there would be a disproportionately larger amount of Independants. To that I say, maybe, just maybe, we're smart enough to realize how little their votes count.

I'm a Republican and I think it's stupid that anybody would buy a computer just because they somehow think it fits their political views better than another computer.

I think creative people have better things to do than argue politics in forums. I've always quietly thought that the republican Mac users were the techie types or elitists ("what's the best computer? Gimme two"). To the best of my knowledge I have never seen a Mac republican post a picture or get creative in a forum. Just lots of rants. Generally the lefties get shouted down. So if you are wondering where they are ? you hounded them out. Then you stand around in an empty forum wondering what to do next. "Next" generally involves tracking down more lefties to beat.

Hey, I've done my share of mock ups and posted a gallery of my new iMac, so don't bitch about us not being creative. Also, where does it say that someone has to "get creative" in a forum?

I'm a republican. All the IT-working, coworkers of mine that have macs I think are conservatives. Not sure if they'd vote republican. Although, the one big complaining transplanted bostoner female loves macs and she's all liberal/democrat, I'd think.

Well, if this teaches us anything, it's not to make such sweeping generalizations (or at least not to make them with such a diverse population as users of the Mac platform ).

RollerBovine, I think that's the most whining I've seen in one post in a good while, thanks.

Democrats are basically Republicans. I think the main difference is the letter they show in front of their names on CNN.

    [edit]

Watch the video for Rage Against the Machine's "Testify" for a nice story on the whole thing.

    Any (Canadian) Liberals here?

Call me Indepedent. I agree with the Founders in a limited govt and believe that we should all keep an open mind to change.

To answer the question: most of the Mac users I've known, in Los Angeles, are liberal hypocrites. They spout left-wing ideals but don't walk the talk. One huge example would be all the Westsiders that believe in diversity but don't want to be around it. Rant over.
