Given the advance in technology today and with Airport/Gigawire/Firewireless/Whatever, I bet they just may be able to do it...

There are different remote access programs you can buy that will allow this, but they are not updating the screen in anything even remotely approaching real time.

People complain about the slow screen redraws in OSX.... and that's with a hard-wired connection between the video card and the monitor!

Then why don't they have any specs? HD, ram, proc speeds, etc?

so you're saying there's no way this could be steve's "one more thing"? since the article seems to be totally devoid of ANY specs...processor speed, options, peripherals, etc, isn't is still possible we don't know everything?

Why would they omit the best part, for this FRONT FREAKIN' PAGE article in Time Magazine? How often does Apple get that kind of publicity? And they're going to just skip over an absolutely amazing, jaw-dropping, revolutionary feature like that in their article so that Steve Jobs can have a nice surprise for a few hundred people at MacWorld?

Maybe becasue Steve's ego wants him to give away the clincher. We are so excited but if tomorrow he says yea but check this out and removes the screen, people will shit thmeselves. Steve would love to reveal certain info himself I suspect. He likes the crowd.

Oh, and the reason the Time article skips over specs is that it's TIME magazine, not Wired or some kind of tech magazine.

Time didn't mention the specs because the specs aren't the story here. Actually, they DID mention those aspects of the specs that are noteworthy -- new chip (G4) for the iMac, and new drive option (superdrive) for the iMac -- and which give it abilities previously only held by the Powermac line.

It seems likely that the hard drive, ethernet, modem, RAM, and other options will be slightly improved over previous iMacs, but nothing earth shattering.

    Ahhhh good point but...

I am not saying we/I are right, just that it is possible. I think if Apple were to have detachable monitors that serve as portable tablets... everyone will hear about it soon enough Stil holding out for hope.

Again you have a good point

I agree the lack of specs makes it sounds like the writer had a personal product demonstration. Not a computer at home that he could kick around for a week or something.

But as much as I would looooove the screen to be detachable, I'm not holding out hope for that...

The arm doesn't really look like it would carry video and power does it? Maybe...

yes but having a cover story about the first wireless tablet BEFORE gates intros his would be a BIG plus for apple to have in this article. Think about how many people are going to read this... All of the doctor's offices and waiting rooms. Plus the newsstand and subscribers...

The reason why the eynote was moved a day earlyer WAS BECAUSE OF THIS ARTICLE. in the article, it mentions that the expo is happening the same week as the article, so it has to be released this week and the only day that is open for is TODAY the 7th. if the keynote was 2morrow, then the article would "ruin" the surprise....

Yes, we dont know everything. but the biggest thing is the iMac. (or @ least the tablet thing is dead)...

it's a good point. i guess my response would be that apple loves surprises. the key to great product marketing is not just having a great product...it's about buzz. it's about excitement. it's about creating a series of detonations that lead up to a giant crecendo. like a fireworks display. i find it odd that a seasoned magazine like TIME never seemed to ask for any specs. we know almost nothing about the internals. isn't that odd. obviously, they had a machine right there...so why didn't they publish what everyone seeing the article would want to know about, the specs? i'd like to think it's because they want to use the images to drive people to the keynote so that can set off the imac finale..the realization that the screen detaches. that seems to make good marketing sense to me.

Again, the it's not the specs that are noteworthy (meriting a front page article in Time), it's the design and concept that is noteworthy.
