I stole this topic but I think it will be handy for scoping out some great music.

What songs have brought you to tears and created other strong emotional impact.

[quote]For me

Tears- These Three Words- Stevie Wonder(how many times do you tell your family, friends etc that you love them? Very moving)

Fear- For You- Staind (scares the beejeezus outta me because I fear not connecting with my child to the point that is displayed in this song....parents worst nightmare)

Candle in the Wind - Princess Diana

Probably the only song that has ever done so...

The best sad piece I can think of is Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber. They played it at Kennedy's and Roosevelt's funerals. And I just get all choked up when I think of dead Democrats.

That, and anything by Britney Spears. Makes me weep like a baby.

    On the downside -- Rap.

Not mix, though. Some mix is cool. Just leave the vocals out.

Night on Bald Mountain, Mussorsky (?)

Mars, the Bringer of War, from Holst' Planets.

The New Hebrides Overture (cartoon music), by I can't remember.

The whole song is great, not just the intro.

Death of a Disco Dancer by the Smiths does it for me though.

    Barber's 'Adagio for Strings'

parts of Ravel's 'Daphnis and Chloe'

    Charles Ives 'The Unanswered Question'

and parts of his 2nd Symphony, specially the first movement. And the last chord of this pieces always reduces me to tears (of laughter!)

    Allegri: "Miserere"

Many of Debussy's solo piano pieces

    Parts of Elgar's Enigma Variations

lots more, can't think right now

Although I have a very strong love and passion for music, very few songs I've heard actually bring me to tears, or any really strong emotion that can be summed up in one word.

but a few that have come close are

    How to disappear completly -radiohead

the color of fire - Boards of canada(not because its sad though...but because its amazingly beautiful)

OHMIGOD, I thought I was the only person who liked "Goodbye"! I haven't heard Emmylou's version, but Steve Earle's version on "Train A-Comin'" is so beautitul.

It's only two verses (and they're short ones), but it's something I could imagine saying to someone.

It's those simple things sometimes that get you...

Earle does it with a couple of acoustic guitars, mandolin, stand-up bass and harmonica.

    Chills.

    Ta-da (God bless the Internet...):

    Goodbye

    (Steve Earle)Â*Â* [1995]

I remember holdin on to you

All them long and lonely nights I put you through

Somewhere in there I'm sure I made you cry

But I can't remember if we said goodbye

    (CHORUS)

But I recall all of them nights down in Mexico

One place I may never go in my life again

Was I just off somewhere just too high

But I can't remember if we said goodbye

I only miss you here every now and then

Like the soft breeze blowin; up from the Caribbean

Most Novembers I break down and cry

But I can't remember if we said goodbye

    (REPEAT CHORUS)

    Ouch!

I just remembered a song that actually brought me to tears

SPACE LION from Cowboy bebop OST

mainly because I associate this song with the inevitable break up of the crew....and though I have never seen the last episode, I don't want it to ever happen.
