What are the t-shirt designers from Abecromie and Fitch on?
They were surprised that people would think these were racist?

1. Being "cutting edge" and a wise-ass isn't always the thing.
2. People should lighten up when #1 doesn't go over as planned.
I blame everyone. A&F for being so chowderheaded. How could they (in this era of hypersensitive, multicultural awareness and over-the-top political correctness) NOT think people wouldn't be offended/pissed?
Then I blame the whole college-aged, "gotta-be-culturally-sensitive-no-matter-what" squad who actually can take time out of their days to get all up in arms about this. Don't like it? Don't buy the ****ing T-shirt.
I can't believe this is the best we can up with, in way of a "crisis" or truly impactful news.
People are blowing themselves up at bus stops and Baretta just got thrown into the Gray Bar Motel...and people are getting their panties in a wad over some lame, trendy T-shirt by some lame, trendy company.
Anyone stupid enough to pay $25 for a goddamn T-shirt deserves to have their sensibilities offended. Asian or otherwise.
Stanford students... who knew they had all that time to waste <img src="graemlins/oyvey.gif" border="0" alt="[No]" />
<strong>Abercrombie and Fitch. Racism apart, are there really any guys in here who could honestly wear that kind of stuff and feel comfortable? They don't make anything that looks remotely OK!</strong><hr></blockquote>
Well I sometimes wear Abercrombie. I don't know, IMO some of their stuff is ok, but their stupid t-shirts for $25 are just ridiculous. I can get the same things in places like Hollister and American Eagle for $12-15.
Yeah, in fact I'm wearing a T-Shirt my sister gave me made by them right now. Got some sort of personal problem with the company?
Everybody loves to hate Abercrombie. They're a company like any other, not some Nazi federation.
Edit: Hehe, me and EmAn replied at the same time.

[quote]"The thought was that everyone would love them, especially the Asian community. We thought they were cheeky, irreverent and funny and everyone would love them. But that has not been the case."<hr></blockquote>
They actually thought Asian people would love them. Jeeeeesus christ.
Just like I bet blacks would love a shirt with 2 Buckwheat looking guys on the front saying "We dun picked da cotton fer dis shirt uhselves."
Unreal.
Oh, and take a look at this sign:
These girls wouldn't know a good design idea if it jumped up and bit their clams.
"Uh, I didn't think 'discriminates' had so many letters..."
Ah shit, the whole thing is just a big laughfest.

I'm still laughing!

Uhhh...pardon the stupid question, but are "clams" north of the naval or south?
For the record, I picked mine up last week. They're going on ebay for $300, sounds like some quick $.
<strong>Funny isn't it. When there's the "Fighting Whities," nobody cries racist!</strong><hr></blockquote>
Umm, I think you missed the point completely on the "Fighting Whites" thing. That was used by a college intramural team to draw attention to the mascot of a local high school (that they considered to be) derogatory toward Native Americans. They weren't trying to sell shitty, overpriced t-shirts.

A cartoon of a stereotypical white man and a funny phrase. Sounds like the exact same type of shirt to me. I know their intended message but it didn't work.

Not at all. 1) They expected to start controversy. 2) They had a cause, which, whether or not their message got through, makes them not as stupid as Abercrombie. Frankly, I'm biased because I think most of Abercrombie's shit is ugly as hell to begin with, but comparing these two cases isn't relevant because they don't at all have anything to do with each other.
Not racist, just stupid. Cali kids like to protest. How long have we known this?
"GOIN FUKINUTS"
Dunkin Donuts T-shirt all day today.

This world's got to grow some stronger skin...
Funny thing is, Abercrombie owns Hollister.

You can still order them out of the Quarterly. Item 2758, $24.50. Congratulations, I just saved you 275.50
I know that, that's why I said I could get the same thing at Hollister. What's up with the shirts being $10 cheaper at Hollister? That's what I never understood.
I think this whole thing is BS and shows the hyper-sensitivity of PC America.
But the real reason Im posting...
I know the guy who originally started this whole campaign. A few of us went to Halloween in SF 2 years ago (where he lives). This guy dressed up like one of those 'Wong Bros'...TOTALLY stereotypical.
At the time, I thought he had a good sense of humor, but now I just think he is a hypocrite. What is he saying? The stereotype is funny as long as an asian american is the one controlling it?
The original article I read about this (in a SF paper) quoted someone who didn't understand what the fuss was about because 'you could probably go to China Town and buy a dozen shirts like that.'
$$$, of course.
Right on target.
