    hahaha... perfect point.

It should be optional. There are many great reasons to NOT use a real name for some stuff on the internet. To think apple using real names will make the internet a safer place is to be SORELY mistaken. The internet isn't going to change for that reason. And yet, you will still be open to personal damage by using your real name in a gaming community.

Apple ID = Real Name = email address/ichat= ways to find your IP address= narrows down your location= closer to financial info= lots of ways to fuck you up. throw someone in there with a piss poor lockdown on their facebook account and you can have some serious security problems.

for something public and involving GAMES... let's side with safety first please instead of some grandiose idea it will make the internet a rosey utopia. gimme a break.

I don't use Ping because I can't remain anonymous while using the Apple ID that I use for iTunes and associated purchases.

How many people would wear a name badge all day 24/7 by choice? Not many I suspect.

I want to be given that choice. Instead I'm choosing to not use the service, like I have with Ping.

I wont use Game Centre either if that is being forced on me by my choice to use Game Centre.

If you accept a friend invitation, the full name associated with your Apple ID will be shared with the sender."

I don't see anything in this which states why this was done. What is their rationale? What is the point of this?

Notice that the TOS stateS 'friend invite' and not game invite. Presumably I can still play against random people online via one off automatch,, without sharing my real name. If I chose to add someone to my friend list, they deserve to know my real name. If I'm viewing someone else's friend list, I shouldn't be able to see that name though.

I don't have a problem under these circumstances at all.

Here it is, 3 years later... And they still have the policy...

To make matters worse, when you look at a person's friends, it shows all their real names.

As a person with a UNIQUE NAME, a person can google it and get my home address, family, and phone number.

So, you have a friend - just one is all it takes. They have a friend, who they don't know. That friend can figure out who you are, find you and your kids and if they are pissed off that they lost a game or other crazy thing, they can come and do whatever.

So, I will NOT allow my kids to use Game Center and Have friends - it is NOT FAMILY SAFE, so saying Apple is being 'Family Friendly' is a load of horse poop. EXACTLY the REVERSE.

It seems like you can even walk a friend chain... So, I'd have to create a different ID for game center (losing all my games I've done) and have it be a BS name. So, how is THAT family friendly??

I expect that by now, Apple won't change their position any time soon.

    - George Washington.... No, really that is my name... No? Well, foo.. I guess it will have to be now...
