All I can say is I hope you don't actually produce products. If you value design as worthless - which is what your comments imply- you represent the archetype of why we get crappy products, like Google TV. For 99% of the use of most of today's electronics tech-specs are trivially important compared to design of the product - UI, UX, form, etc. Design adds more value than specs and Apple proves this over and over with their profit margins.
Google needs to hire one guy who is not an engineer whose job will be to say "Guys, this product sucks" whenever an actual, prototype, or proposed Google product sucks. Then, Google of course has to listen. This will help improve Google's products a million fold.
Not a bad thought, but I think every company could use one of those. At Apple, it just seems that people like Steve Jobs and Scott Forstall *are* those guys. And Richard Branson has said he does that at Virgin. It needs to just be built into the company that when something sucks, people need to speak up and the higher ups need to accept it and start again.
I am not sure what 'AirPlay' is supposed to be... I guess it should read AirPrint.

Well let's face it, the Dell streak is an 5" Android phone, not so much what we define as a tablet. He got that wrong. Calling it the worst product is stretching it. On Anandtech they reviewed it favorably. It has sucky wifi performance though, and "suffers" from the bigger screen issue, like 5 is that much bigger than a 4.3, sheesh.
I think el Jobso meant put the setup box inside the tv, which Sony already did, but this did not take off because of comcast and content providers. Now with comcast msnbc deal it looks even less likely that google will succeed.
That said apple already has many content deals in place, all we need is a real apple tv, that is actually a tv.
It isn't going to be something worth buying because Google is learning what Apple has already learned. Namely, content providers aren't going to give Google a free ride on their content. Apple TV actually solves a problem. It allows people to get content from their computer and other iOS devices and show it on their TVs. A bonus is you can now watch Netflix as well.
Google will have a hard time competing there because Microsoft is the backbone for content protection from Netflix. I wonder the likely hood Microsoft will help Android out. Google was hoping it could just find all the free TV shows on the Internet, index it, and show it. Not going to happen without paying the content providers dollars.

That's because Google doesn't care a bit about quality. Like Microsoft, for whom "good enough" was always the mantra (and very liberally interpreted by them), Google just wants to dump free stuff into markets that is good enough to destroy that market as one in which companies can profitably compete based on quality. The goal is to get everyone using the low quality, but free, stuff, by sucking the oxygen out of the market for everyone else, so Google can collect personal data, control access to information, serve ads and, increasingly, to steer people to other Google services where the vicious cycle repeats.
This is also why Apple is one of the few companies that is able to effectively compete against Google. Apple's philosophy is exactly opposite: create innovative high quality products that are easy to use, and that stay at least a step or two ahead of the junkware that companies like Google and Dell put out. That Apple does compete effectively against these companies is a testament to just how much better their products and user experience are.
Like Microsoft, Google is not and never has been a creative company. They both used a single product, DOS/Windows and Search, respectively, to leverage themselves into other markets. But their strategy in those markets is not to produce fantastically great products, it's to produce "good enough" products, dumped on the market, and to destroy those markets for others.

I think Apple should partner with a cable provider and not compete with them. Imagine if they partnered with AT&T U-verse and designed their box and UI... I think that is what is needed in order to slowly redefine Television.

Dude's opinion is totally closed minded. I will be honest. People choose a device and base it on their needs and preferences. As a device i say the dell streak is no where near the worse and the iphone 4 is no where near the best. If a device doesnt work like it is supposed to then it is not the better than a perfectly working device. I will defend the streak because it is not a competitor to the ipad. The ipad is a tablet (giant 3rd gen ipod touch) while the streak is a hybrid between a phone a mini tablet. They both do as they are intended to do and with the froyo update to the streak and the OS4.2 update for the ipad they are both better devices than they started off as. As far as the iphone 4 and the samsung galaxy s being the best phones of 2010, Mossburg is out of his mind. A phone with a crummy antenna and another phone with a crummy gps is shouldn't be classified as number one and number two. I think he is basing his thought on the displays and the processors. I say as a phone the best phone of 2010 was the htc evo 4g. I'm not on sprints network either but the phone works as it was designed and does it well. Mr.Mossburg needs to understand that being biased isn't the best kind of news. Being honest and leaving personal opinion out is the best way.
