Study history more. In 1993 Apple, along with some partners, created its unsuccessful Eworld. Eworld was an AOL like experience, which included an Apple made web browser. Netscape came along in 1994, and Explorer in 1995. Firefox is what is left over from Netscape so that doesn't count.

Even if this wasn't so, the comparison is still fair. Apple was happy not to be in the browser business, but then Microsoft abandoned the Mac platform with Explorer. Apple didn't want to be at the mercy of Firefox for its browsing needs.

Google, however, didn't do as Microsoft, Netscape and Apple did. Namely develop their own browser engines. Google uses Apple's Webkit. To be fair Apple borrowed from some other technology and made webkit open source. Google adds to the code, but Google relied heavily on Apple's work to make Chrome happen. It essentially created a GUI to go on Apple's Webkit.

Google also completed changed it's phone plans once the iPhone came out. Google's original phone operating system wasn't touch screen based and looked nothing like the iPhone.

    1. So what?

    2. Don't need a degree to use GTV either

    3. Can't "tinker" with a GTV. Which is ironic, seeing as how many people tinkered with the original ATV to make it into a worthwhile device.

You want a tinker's device? Get a XBMC computer, Boxee or a Nokia N900.

What does iTunes try to install behind your back?

The only thing I know about is that iTunes uses (depends upon) QuickTime to do some player functions -- rather than duplicate the function within iTunes.

iTunes does a lot of things quite well related to content: presentation; marketing; purchasing; distribution; fullfillment; synching; backup; categorizing; accessing; management; sharing; streaming; playing, etc.

I don't like the use of XML as the database for iTunes -- human-readable serves no advantage and adds a lot of overhead.

You could almost consider iTunes as a self-contained OS/client-server/client-client system/server-server system -- imagine, if you will, iTunes running on a NAS storage device, connected locally and to a similar capability in the cloud. It could easily manage all your content and mobile devices.

Safari, for one, even though I'm pretty sure I keep telling it no. Forcing me to upgrade whether I want the stupid Ping feature or not. Taking over my music associations.

Quicktime I can understand. But even with a computer less than a year old, it is very slow, unresponsive, and takes forever to do the simplest of syncing.

really I wasn't aware of an Apple browser at that time. I had an eWorld account and previously an Apple Link Account but I never received a browser

I have Comcast cable Internet. I'm am going to have Internet if I get tv from com cast or not. I pay...

    $7.99/month - Hulu

    $7.99/month - Netflix

    $120/year - MLB TV

Other than baseball I don't watch any other sports. If I did I probably would go to a local bar or the casino down the road and watch. Either place I would have a good time.

I don't really care all that much for Ping either, and so do not use it. However, iTunes runs pretty snappily, as does syncing, even on my son's 4 year old iMac. We have 1 iPod touch, 3 iphones and 2 iPads in the household. They all sync fairly quickly.

Wait - are you using Windows?

I don't know about Google's latest offering, but the new AppleTV is awesome - especially with AirPlay.

I want to know how people "save" money with this set up.

Maybe I am missing something, but cable in my area is around $80-$99 a month for all the channels and an HD DVR.

I watch TV for 2-4 hours each night after work. If I were to rent 1/2Hr. sit-com shows, say 3-4 a night, I would be spending $3-$4 a day for 30 days, that's $90-$120 a month, and that is without watching a single movie. Add in a Netflix acct for an additional $8 a month and now we are near $100-$130 a month.

Maybe if you hardly watch TV, you could save, but maybe someone can explain how this set up "saves" anything at all? Comcast in my area will give you a HD DVR, 10+MBs cable internet and a phone for $99 a month. (I don't even count the phone, its useless since I have a cell phone)

I see this as a money sink. You can't even DVR it and watch it again later.

Another part that sucks, I can't even put my own DVD movies (that I Paid for) into iTunes so I can stream those thru Apple TV. I can understand copyrights not wanting me sharing or copying the dvd, but if I own it, I should be allowed to add it to my computer for personal viewing.

What Differentiates Apple TV from Google TV is:

Apple TV: " MAGICALLY AGILE ", Seamless, Flawless, Effortlessly SMOOTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Google TV: " TOO SLOW, TOO CUMBERSOME " Period!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
