There has been alot of talk/joking over in <a href="http://forums.appleinsider.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=10&t=001432"; target="_blank">this thread</a> about porn. I wanted to just start a new thread about it.

What do you think about it?, Right/Wrong?, moral?, religious views, How many gigs do you have stored , first time, any stories?, etc.

I wouldn't say 99% is disgusting, but some of it really is nasty. There's also some good stuff out there though.

porn is fine. i have lots. everyone needs to relax about the whole subject.

crap on TV is probably 100 times more damaging than porn anyway, so get some priorities straightened out here.

Leave thug life alone, it's worse for him being the way he is than it is for you.

    --

And to reiterate: porn is bad, mmkay?

What stuff on television do you refer to, alcimedes?

All guys like porn to an extent and degree of "hardcoreness". Guys are built that way biologically, moral objections won't really change the fact that you like seeing hot chicks in sexual situations. Some prefer the super hardcore, some prefer the really soft softcore, but we all like porn to an extent. I think thug life has made it clear that he is superficial enough if he brags about his girlfriend being a model (not that that's something to brag about necessarily).

It's something that's not constructive in any way and it can be warping to your mind and addictive (proven fact).

And remember, alcimedes, the original poster asked for all opinions on the matter.

It's been my experience that most models you meet travel in small time circles (wannabees, they go to the parties, might walk a runway here and there, ussually locally) are more or less amateur call girls. They think they're models, but they'll never get beyond the following. It's not as crude an exchange as money for sex -- more like sex for promises, access to the in crowd, a good party, the newest drugs, nice gifts, etc etc... But basically they're kept around to put-out for some guys with a lot of cash/fame/power.

If biographies are anything to go by, this is true for the super-model crowd aswell, at least untill they become supermodels.

When you hear a girl describe herslef as a 'model,' turn tail and run, chances are she's vain, stupid, and used up (or soon will be).

PORN is a subjective point of view. What I consider to be "hardcore" another person may see as "cheesecake photography" and vice versa. Let freedom of choice prevail.

Porn is like Masterbating...most lie and say they don't partake.

Me personally I'm not into the Fetish stuff. I don't have gigs either. There are some beautiful Women that are in the industry and there's something about the best ones that seem to know what Men like. Of course most porn is rediculous with horrible camera work and grating "fake" moans. Every once in a while you will see something that can truly be called "Artistic"

Too many kids here who don't want to admit that they watch porn. I think every male in America save some religiously brainwashed misfits have seen a porno. I don't think anyone has thrown up, unless the porn in question involved some of the more revolting, non-typical acts.

I've seen quite a bit of porn, just because I'm male and happen to have friends who are also male. The truth for me is that after 30minutes I lose interest. I've been de-sensitized to the point where "It's not porn if there's not clear penetration." I'll end on that note.

Nobody here is answering the post question.

I for one think that porn is very complex and can be addictive.

It can be a horrible thing for many reasons:

1&gt; it controls the imagination. It fill one's head with predefined cliched images that hamper the ability to exercise a spontaneus relationship to one's own sexuality through the imagination. THe imagination is a powerfull tool for controlling others through the use of imagery. The faculty of the imagination is also one of the sole means at our disposal through which we can fashion an externalization of ourself so as to understand one's self from one's self.

in other words: prnography hampers self understanding.

2&gt; Also the imagery that colonizes the imagination tends to move towards real life: we start to see real people in terms of the catagories set up by the pornographic image: this erases a person's reality: it obliterates the compassion one can have for the sufferings of life and replaces it with cliched images that are centered around specific trivial acts.

in other words: pornography hampers the understanding of others.

3&gt; Pornography gets its power because it keeps real sexuality represessed. We repress real sexuality because it is the side of us that is most an aspect of our being mere animals, our species determinism: it thereby reveals our powerlessnes in the face of ourselves, our bodies and our instincts: it reveals the lie that is the world our egos construct about ourselves: real sexuality is to our egos like death.

Pornography acts (psychologically) like any fetish: we focus on it so that it will make sexuality something that we feel that we can control. (fetishes, according to Freud, focus the ego so that the person can complete the sex act without being destroyed by it.) This kind of repression then brutalizes our relationship to our own sexuality because it replaces sexual Erotic energy with that of Control and power over the body and Death. And Erotic energy is that of love and intimacy.

in other words: pornography turns our love into ugly power.

5&gt; These are real people in these movies and pictures. Many of them are very young (hopefully all of them are legally adults!!) and may not have a full understanding of what they themselves are doing. Or they may be doing so out of economic cumpulsions or, even, as in cases in eastern europe, they are involved because family members are threatened by mafia if they don't. Our interrest pays for perpetuation of the darker aspects of porn's infrastructure. Sure, there are people who are involved becaseu they love sex and the lifestyle and etc. but often you can see in the eyes a lost soul.

In other words: pornography often perpetuates real world miseries and abuses.

there are more horrible aspects but I thought I would try to list some good things:

1&gt; Its a means of quick release.

2&gt; If you can look at it as a sort of art form with varying forms of aesthetic realms, it can be a fascinating way of understanding how to construct and controll other people's interests and focus. You can see a wide variety of vocabularies for different perspectives and can think about how they imply different things:

for instance, Lets say one likes the "art" photo kind of soft porn, where the women are portrayed as fine art objects, in a soft light, usualy in an environment with costly items; the sort which the newly-rich would use as a way of displaying wealth and 'taste', Or, they are shown in leisure activities that also conote wealth, Also they tend to be half dressed in fine clothes that have the air of the south of France: well, a tourists idea of the South of France, this, as well as the fine lighting of the scenes (traditional three point lighting) and soft muted lines indicate a yearning for a kind of "cultured" and "tasteful" involvement --after all one doesn't just fvck, one "makes L'amour" and one makes 'art' in a tradition of the "nude" Not in the Tradition of the NAKED. They have the pretensions of fine craft definitly not the craft of the photo's of the artist photographer Nan Goldin for instance . . .more presciouse and fit for framing . . . in a gold guilt frame.

Then there is the machinefvck kind of perspective: this is for those that don't 'pussy foot' they "know what they want". And its clearly all about control of the woman and the love of seeing a woman become a self degrading piece of hamburger. This kind of person likes loud fast cars but has a small car, they like guns, they think people are by nature violent and brutal, and their politics reflect that belief: OR they are merely into extremes, and experienceing intensity (this perspective would be IF they too could see themselves in these machines and get off on it).

The former "art" perspective is an aestthetic of the denial of the body in favor of ideals, the latter is about control, or punishment of the body due to its inerent inadaquacy and fear of the death that sex implies.

Of course it is all much more complex, but that is what is so fascinating about it it is extremely rich in subtle nuances that say so much and can make it "work" for one person and fail for another:

in other words: pornography reveals the power of images, and worlds of aesthetic nuance.

3&gt; Pornograhy can also open one to parts of sex that they deny to themselves (if it doesn't trap them into addiction to it) and, if taken lightly and without guilt, can be pleasurable.

In other words: it feels good to get off.

    Just some thoughts.

    a quote:

?We have filled our hearts with fantasy

and our hearts grow brutal on the fare.?

    \t\t\t\t\t\t--W. B. Yeats

while i completely agree with your long comments, you can replace the word pornography in your text with words such as Television, Radio, Computers, Politicians, Large Corperations, Drugs, Alcohol, Tobacco, Advertising and especially *Religion*, and for 99% of your text you will still have a perfectly valid argument.

The fact is that modern life has completely destroyed the innocence of humanity, porno is just one of many 'vices' that now control how people act, think, live life. It is a shame that it has come to this, but at the end of the day, this is what 99% of people, especially in the West have chosen themselves. This is the age of the me,me,me now now now, society with instant gratification and mucho self reward. What is by far the most damaging and corrupt of these human made vices? Religion without a doubt.

ok guys, this thread was taking two directions: picture posting and talking about personal porn experiences (bad) and discussion of the original question: the morality or whatnot. (good). There was also some wierd tigerwoods-centric talk.

I cleaned it up so that it's focused entirely on the original topic.

I understand that the links were'nt all bad. It's a very slippery slope though: so i have to come down on this and say NO LINKS TO ADULT SITES.

Remember that there are minors browsing these forums. We do have a responsibility to keep it mostly clean (at least in the porn department) for them.

    Thanks in advance for understanding...

Keep it clean and focused. Think with your brains, folks.

    ppflam,

you might need to see a shrink... i mean, if yer truly that suggestible.

    just a thought,

    cuss

p.s. Petter Hegre ist gut, ja? und Larry Clark? und Helmut Newton?

p.p.s. south of france? yeesh, you need to get out more.

p.p.p.s. and you damned sure don't want me deciding what porn is... i'd outlaw the photography of Anne Geddes and music like hootie and dem blowfish and dave maffews and lemmy krapwitz on those grounds.

Which comment? The one about you being superficial?
