I got a job...

...for newbies here Artman has been out of work (web and graphic design) since last July. It has been a nightmare. Artman likes to work. I have been on unemployment since then.

This is not a dreamjob. It can be labled as an "internship" web and graphic design position, $ 9.00 and hour (40 hours a week) which could lead to more salary and benefits in 6 months if all goes well. It is with a wholesale merchandise company designing their catalogues and web design graphics for their site(s).

Also, (and this is the good news) I have a freelance gig at another web company here in the city. That'll consist of front-end web graphic designs for web projects (anywhere from 3-8 hour projects) they have coming to them. That pays $50.00 an hour. Should get something soon from them.

That freelance position is the security I need. The other job may lead to something better. But in reality I need to get back into the work routine again. Maybe the first job will tank or maybe I'll find something better. But they are both in the city within walking distance so that's a plus.

Thanks to members here who have given me tips and support in these unpredictable times we live in...and others who put up with my rants. All have been appriciated...now let's get to work!

    Woohoo! Congratulations!

So I guess the Ikea thing didn't work out? I was just there last weekend and I was thinking "hey, I wonder if that AI dude is working here now".

You in center city? I'm in Northeast Philly.

As far as Ikea's concerned...screw them...what a runaround. They never could give me a straight answer whether they had full-time, part-time or anything at all. Plus the commute (by bus...and for non-Philly residents...SEPTA sucks) would have been an hour and a half of torture. it's dissapointing, they are expanding like crazy. But their HR Department and system sucks.

Yeah, I'm a Center City dude. Now that I have 2 jobs in the city within walking distance I can maybe stick around for a while. I love the city.

Thanks Willoughby...if you're ever in the city stop by Dirty Franks on 13th and Pine...me and my buddies will be there for Happy Hour.

Sniff...thanks all...yer truly cool...Leonis...didn't break your record...but who would want to?

For all you "out of towners" this is Dirty Franks...

It has been my home away from home these past few months. No, wasn't drinking myself into a stupor...just a cool hang out. There's also a nice coffee joint on the opposite corner where I took this picture. Franks is dirty, but it's dirty because it's been around for decades. The mural was added two years ago. Before all you would know if there was a bar there was if the door was open...and their amazing jukebox is wailing.

Start work tomorrow, so Frank's is outta the question. Have to get into the routine again. It's 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM with a half hour lunch. There are a few places around to grab a bite to eat. But maybe I'll carry a lunch. This job will barely carry me through salary wise...hope the freelance stuff will kick in next week though.

Just an honest question. I was wondering how in the world do you stay finnacialy afloat (bills rent etc,) without going into debt, when you'v been out of work for 9-18 months?

Unemployment Compensation for the first 6 months...then after Dachell (sp?) stopped scratching his ass I got an extension. I did save a few bucks from the previous job. BUT I had just gotten back from a London vacation back then. To only find out a day later I was getting laid off...

At the new job now. Pretty cool people...pretty shittty Windoze computers. I will hopefully be getting a new PC next week...but jeeez, they only have Photoshop 5? They want me to do web, they better get 6 or 7...hell, it's a job.
