"Gadget converts woofs into words



SINGAPORE--If Dr Dolittle can't make animals talk, perhaps Japanese toy maker Takara can.

The company unveiled Thursday a new gadget, called Bowlingual, which can scrutinize and translate a dog's bark into expressions, such as "I've had enough" or "I'm a little bored, let's play." The gizmo was tested on a dog at the Tokyo Toy Show, an annual event featuring electronic games, collectibles and dolls from all over the world. The four-day event ends Sunday.



Bowlingual consists of a wireless microphone, to be attached to the collar, and a terminal which analyzes and matches each "woof" with a set of pre-programmed phrases."





"It is not known if Takara is adapting the device for cat owners."



Amazing. Now we can get a sense of what dogs are feeling when they communicate with us. Of course cats are a whole other story...

    It could just randomly spit off some prerecorded phrase with every bark and have the same effect...



    I have an aunt that I am sure will feel that she is really communicating with her stupid dog...



    As if she wasnt pathetic enough already...

    As if all the little dog clothes and puppy presents, etc didnt just top-off my aunts insanity already...



    Now, Not only will I have to hear my aunt talk to her dog all day as if it could understand what she was saying...

    Yeah, that seems about as legitimate as a Magic 8-Ball.



    Do you suppose cats and dogs have different "languages" like we do, though? You know: German barking versus Japanese barking?

    It's not lke you wouldn't know if it were bogus. If the thing said "I'm hungry," then you gave the dog food and he didn't want to eat, it would be pretty obvious.



    It's not beyond comprehension. I can tell by my dog's voice what's going on usually, or at least her mood. Maybe Timmy knew what he was talking about?

    Dunno. But some animals actually do. Especially birds have dialects and trained people can pinpoint the habitat of different birds within few miles based on their singing.



    A couple of years ago I heard a broadcasting about birds and they told that those birds that tend to copy the singing of other birds had started to copy the ringing of mobile phones (this was before personally ring tones).



    A different story is how we spell the different sounds animals make. Its very different and if we are to reproduce the sounds people of different languages will make different sounds despite the fact we hear the same sound when the animal makes it. Its quite funny and interesting



    I have an idea: Tomorrow I´ll make a few mp3s of the sound different animals make in danish and post them here. Someone do it in other languages. Until then here is what some animals say in letters:



    Dog: Vov-vov

    Cat: Miav

    Cow: Muh

    Sheep: Mæh

    Chickens: Pib-pib



    Any importent animals I don´t have here?

    I met a costa rican dog and he wouldn't respond to english at all but he would to spanish

    Your animals talk funny Ours say:

    Dog: woof-woof

    Cat: meow

    Cow: moo

    Sheep: baaaah

    Chickens: Buck-ah
