You get blade SSDs from Toshiba (whose chips Apple use for their own SSD):
but still only up to 256GB. It probably won't go to 512GB until the next NAND fabrication. For Toshiba, that should be later on this year. For Intel, it's either this month or next but they are making 2.5" drives not blades. Maybe Apple will switch the NAND supplier to Intel/Micron.
The new fab doubles the capacity you can get. When they jump to 10nm, it should double again at least to 1TB:
Looks like 360GB is about as big as you can get and it's pricey.
I'd go with the 256 and wait a year to replace it.
If you're getting the 11" MBA the larger sticks have chips on both sides and results in a bowing of the SSD since there isn't any clearance on the 11". Folks still make it work though.
A 500 gig SSD, when it actually comes out, will probably cost nearly $1,000 fyi. Of course it'll come down, but I imagine it'll take a few years to approach the cost of a regular hard drive of that capacity now. (i.e. less than a hundred bucks)

Apple even offer a BTO 512GB in the MBP. But very pricey at over $2 per GB. Prices are rumoured to drop to $1.6 per GB soon but they are taking their time to get any of the upgrades out. Intel's supposed to be launching some 34nm Elm Crest in March now and no mentions of the x25M G3 yet. The Crucial C400 is rumoured to arrive in March.
It's interesting that you rarely hear about any developments in platter drives any more. AFAIK, there's still no 1TB 9.5mm drive and it will likely be 5400 rpm. Until the price drops, I'd be happy with a 256GB SSD and a 1TB external platter drive connected via USB3.

They should make dual slots that can fit 2 x 512GB in RAID for now though.
