It's like Apple wants to go down the toilet with them. Buy the damn velocity patent and get IBM involved immediately. Of course, they didn't see a need to do this for the last two years worth of screw-ups so I'm sure Steve wants to give them a "fair shake." What a farce this has become, having to invent marketing slogans and divert people's attention from the obvious in order to not admit that there is a problem with the partnership. I think Jobs is just as deluded about MOT as we were about this MW....

Hmmm.... Jobs isn't really in the computing business so much any more, he's more in the 'send your grandchild's pix to your grandmother' business. He trades in sentiment not megahertz. Let's wish him luck, he's a good one.

    Tiresome?? WTF?!

Before today when did I rant about MOT, Power Macs or anything else related to product lines? Probably last January - and probably with equally good reason then too, wouldn't you say? Either way I've only posted a few comments thus far today, and none of them were incendiary (i.e. "Die Jobs! DIE DIE DIE!). So pick a better target for the "tiresome rant" comment, OK? I may rant about the news media, stupid television personalities or even politicians from time to time, but I'm not a major Expo / Jobs basher and never have been, so chill.

Hell I predicted this would happen, except that I was giving them more benefit of the doubt then they deserved (I thought the PM's would be bumped by about 100MHz a pop). I'm not telling anyone to move to PC's or even saying that I am, I'm just pointing out what a let down this event was given all of Apple's BS hype.

Whatever. Life is too short to have so much angst around a company, dude.

suckfuldotcom: You're about as whipped up as STeve is, basking in the glory of his iLamp. Wow guys this has the G4 processor at 800 MHz! And with Velocity Engine! It can beat 4 GHz Pentium 4s! That's in a couple Photoshop filters! Isn't this so cool? I was watching the Expo at skool and I swear how long was he talking about iPhoto for? Join Fisher Price Jobs, computers aren't meant to be toys. Sorry but Apple is going backwards, and I have every right to bitch all I want. Bitch bitch bitch......yep that's what I'll do. Are you so far up Jobs a** that you can't see pas the RDF? DO you really believe everything he says? Get out of your dream world. I had faith in Apple, especially with all the hype, and all they give us is this? That's not worthy of my praise.

How long have we been stuck at 800?
  • Reply 7 of 13
The iMacs have been 'stuck' at 800mhz for 1 day.

The Powermacs are not stuck at 800mhz, since you can already guy an 867mhz Powermac.

    Oh well la tee da.

How long have we been stuck at 866.66666666666666666666666666666666666666667?

I know we have been stuck at sub-GHz forever.

You can bitch all you want, but by doing so it makes you a BITCH. That's where the verb 'to bitch' comes from, you know.

And I have never claimed that the new iMac will stand toe to toe with the p4 2.2GHz chip.

I will say that the productivity of the new iMac is unmatched. You can do anything on that mofo, Ghz or not. That's why I'm buying one.

Speed above 800 MHz is like money above $20 million: is it really gonna change your lifestyle? (Note, for a select few, 800 MHz is not enough. They have a legitimate beef. But I ain't one of them.)

    That is true, literally.

And both Intel and AMD had been stuck at sub-GHZ "forever" until they sold their first 1ghz chips.

Sure, Motorola is behind. They're so far behind that Apple has tried using MP machines to make up part of the difference, but that's not enough.

The thing is, people have been whining about it like crazy for years, and the whining seems to imply that Apple doesn't mind Motorola having chips no faster than 867. Don't you think if Moto could come up with a 3ghz chip, Apple would sign up?

Tsss, of course not! Don't you know that both Apple and Motorola have that incredible obsession about having to piss off their customers (and each one of them individually and personally) on a regular basis, just for the fun of it? The whole "profitable business" thing is just fake! Being cruel to your customers is all that matters!

I noticed there was no Photoshop bake off.

I guess even in some select few filters an 800MHz G4 can't hold its own. Not surprising, as the competitors are well above 2X the G4s clock. Even though the G4 may be slightly more efficient clock for clock, and its Vector Engine helps a lot, at some point nothing can be done. That point has passed awhile ago.

The exact same thing was going through my head when I was watching the keynote. The computers reflect Steve Jobs a lot?he wants them to be simple and reliable, like an appliance that he always wanted them to be instead of something that must be watched and maintained. He's working towards that, but sacrificing performance and price along the way.

Jobs isn't sacrificing power if he comes through with a new, fast PowerMac.

Read the "This MW was for CONSUMERS" threads if you want to figure out why people are tired of your power-rants.

Steve Jobs IS in the business of photos to grandma within the iMac and iBook business model. Steve Jobs is ALSO in the business of powerusers within the PowerMac and PowerBook business models.

It is hard to fathom why some here after years of posting still don't understand that Apple has TWO distinct hardware markets! One OS, but TWO hardware markets!

So gripe about the form, price and function of the iMac as a consumer digital device, but don't go off on tangents that belong in a PowerUser thread.

That being said, I forgot that THIS thread was specifically about Moto and (slightly embarrassed) I agree with Moog that Apple needs to take Velocity Engine on the road...sorry for MY tangent....
