The massive amounts of protein and calcium in meat, eggs, milk...
And no, no vegetable contains as much protein or iron as red meat, unless u eat a ton of it...
I'd hazard a guess and say that Steve Jobs is working with a nutritionist. I know this is all bantering and speculation so there's really no harm in these comments.
Pretty sure God has already blessed this man. Fairly successful life by many measures.
Out of curiosity, would you want to swap places with him right now? (Ie, rich beyond measure, highly respected, lunch with the president, etc etc, BUT with a potentially fatal disease about which you can do little).
I ask only because I was thinking about it myself this morning, and came to the conclusion that my health actually matters more to me than everything that he has achieved. Not sure whether that is surprising or standard?
Thoughts?
IMO, that's a pretty silly hypothetical. He did not choose to be in this situation.
How bout a corollary. What would you do if you were 50 and find out you have only about 10 more years to go? How would you deal with that?
I don't ready tabloids or even pay attention to the TMZ type sites. I just call it like I see it. He doesn't look good. Worse than the last time he gave a product announcement.
Check out the previous keynotes. He looks a LOT better to me -- look at WWDC2010 and earlier.
I don't know, maybe it's just wishful thinking and maybe it's because I saw both my parents die from cancer, but Steve Jobs looks fantastic by comparison and better than he did previously, in my opinion. He sounds good, too.
Being at todays event was a true sign of a devoted man pashionate about the future. Hopefully Steve Jobs will return to Apple and help create the future.
As for people saying he looked good or he looked bad, merely an observation. His presence at the meeting shows that his heart is with Apple and his strength is motivated by Apple.........the standing ovation when he entered was proof.
Steve's face looked okay. But if you noticed any side-on shots, he is really much thinner. He did a good presentation but the enthusiasm was a little strained at times, plus he spoke a bit slower than usual. All I can say is may the Goddess bless your path, Steve. Blessed be.
I am not an expert on nutrition, but SJ has is doing well considering the CA, transplant and impaired digestive tract. Not to mention the bag full o anti rejection pills he has to take.
Anyway, a patient who has a undergone a transplant of the liver and a modified Whppple Procedure would have difficulty digesting heavy protein good... which the pancreatic juices help. Fatty digestion would be impaired too. Not like such a person could digest easily an American size ribeye, fries easily.
SJ probably needs amino acid, processed lipids, simple carbs and supplements added to some simple to digest diet. Usually a GI sub-specialist and a nutritionist with expertise in this area would be needed. Most transplant centers have this kind of expertise... not the Apple cafeteria in Cupertino or some fad diet. Plus he needs to take his pill on time, go bed on time and rest. Not go to work for 10 hours every day.
I am not an expert in this area, may be any sub-specialist in the board care to comment?
Honestly, his vegan diet probably won't make recovery quick, but he's finally making visible progress, at least.
Liver disease doesn't take too kindly to protein-rich foods, so lack of meat & eggs is probably not so much a problem. Oily foods aren't good for you either.

You beat me to it -- I didn't get to the 2nd page before responding to the original post about a vegan diet. As someone diagnosed with NASH (cirrhosis) I know what high protein & fat intake does to me -- not very nice, so have had to cut back on the meat & eggs and look to a more "balanced" diet.
Liver transplants are not permanent -- a non-diseased liver will probably become diseased within about five years. A lot also depends on bile production, state of the gall bladder and absorption through the walls of the intestine. Regular bowel movements (2-3 times a day) are necessary to avoid toxicity and the onset of (treatable & reversible) encephalopathy, which is usually treated by ingesting laxatives. Takes a toll on the body and makes you thin(ner) whether you like it or not.
He actually looks better than he has in a while. Maybe we should stop thinking of his 'medical leave' as "Oh, he's going to die!" and start thinking of it as "Oh, he's taking a break from work so he can get better." And way to go for being vegan!
Steve seemed to be completely on his game. That's good to see.
I for one am glad he took the stage to announce iPad 2. It was an important announcement and no one works the crowd better than Steve. He's got it down to a science. This announcement wasn't as wow as when Apple unveiled the first iPhone or iPad, but it was equally important, now there are copycat devices on the market. The message was: iPad 2 has the specs, but it's not about the specs. It's magical and it's cool. It's sexy. No one does that better than Steve.

Steve, eat a cheeseburger.
Make it a healthy organic grass-fed raw milk cheeseburger if you must, but eat one. Hell, eat two
His stomach would eat through itself. You can't have a vegan or vegetarian eat meat after years (DECADES) of not.

All I'm saying is it isn't just the iPad that is 33% thinner

He looked the same to me.

I agree.

God bless the man! so glad to see him back on stage.
My sentiments precisely... (sniff) brought a tear to my eye.

Hell, I've been on a loosely vegetarian diet for two weeks, and the thought of meat makes me ill already...
I'll never be a vegan, though. That's nearly as unhealthy as eating McDonald's every day.

Steve's face is FAR fuller than it has been.

Ouch. That's a rough way of putting it. \

You lose a liver and see how you fare.
