Is Baseball #1 in your town? (US/Canada)

I've been realizing something lately, but I'd like to find out people's opinions here.

Is baseball the biggest sport in your town? If you have more than one sport around, which is the most important?

I know that in Boston, baseball still reigns supreme. Even though the Celtics were successful in the 80s (and this season), even though the Bruins had over 100 points, and even though the Patriots won the Super Bowl, baseball is still the biggest draw in New England.

I also think that baseball is #1 in NY as well. Maybe I'm wrong, though, and if I am, please correct me.

It's America's pastime, but is it still #1?

Sorry to those in Europe who don't have MLB.

In Kansas City, we have both the Royals (MLB) and the Chiefs (NFL), and you only have to look at which team is more successful to know what's biggest in our town.

The Royals suck and the Chiefs don't (generally). The Chiefs rule KC.

In Chicago, right now, yes. The pussy ass white boys and ****ing stupid suburban pricks will root for the Cubs no matter how much they suck. In fact I bet the Cubs could go on the field and literally suck. That is show the other team a "good time" on the field, with the fans watching, and those idiots would still cheer.

But you know when the Bulls were winner it was them and way back a long long time ago the Bears were worth no spitting on.

Nop. Not here. The Brewers are drawing sparse crowds in their second year "dome", but the team has the worst record in the NL.

The Bucks tanked in the last month of the season, but were still drawing well.

We have an indoor soccer team and an outdoor team in the "minors" that draw sparsely. The indoor team has won two of the last four championships, and missed a third last month by a hair.

The biggest "draw" here is the Packers, and they don't even play here anymore.

I'm from Mass. originally, and SF is nowhere near as much as baseball city as Boston. I would say that football has a slight edge over baseball here in the Bay Area.

That said, this is a pretty good baseball town. Barry Bonds and the new park keep packing 'em in to see the Giants, and the A's have a young (albeit uneven) team that is fun to watch. In fact, I'm heading to the Oakland Coliseum tonight to watch the A's / Mariners game...

Toronto is the undisputed hockey capital of the world!

1) Hockey

2) Basketball

3) Baseball

4) CFL

Baseball used to be huge before the Raptors came to town and when the Jays won two World Series' in a row (92-93).

We have no pro football team in LA, so Pro basketball reigns supreme, much more with a possible "threepeat" looming.

The rest is kind of difficult sice most people in LA are so flakey when it comes to sports. Yhey're usually fair weather fans, so I'll rank them the way I like them.

College Football(Bruins)

Pro Hockey(Kings)

College Basketball(Bruins)

Pro Baseball(Angels)

Pro Basketball(Lakers, I guess)

Don't ask me about the Trojans, the Ducks, the Raiders(Yuck...still a lot of their fans around)or the Clippers

Hockey is ahead of basketball in Texas? You'd know better than me but I wouldn't have guessed that in a million years.

Here in CT it's college basketball (men first and then the women) then it's baseball (most CT baseball fans root for the Yankees, the Sox are right behind, then the Mets), pro football (Giants, Patriots, Jets - in that order) then hockey, then the NBA. Back when Larry Bird was still playing, the Celtics used to play here in Hartford a couple of times a year. The Civic Center was bigger than the old Boston Garden. That stopped when Boston built the Fleet Center. There are still a lot of Celtic fans in CT.

i would have to agree with PestoBreath regarding the Bay Area. but if yer talkin San Francisco, then it's DEFINITELY football. we were spoiled for over 20 years with the Niners. i love the Giants as well, but i definitely love the Niners more.

this part of texas, id put number 7 between 3 and 4. and maybe put 6 above 4 or 5. noone gives a sh*t about basketball or hockey here...

except my last roomate. i didnt mind hockey before last semester...

but yes, football is far above anything else in any part of texas...unfortunately...

BTW, My HS team won today and we'll be playing @ Shea Stadium Thursday at 10am for the City Championship.

hmm...i dunno about that...

now that the dream is over, the 49ers are somewhat overlooked. back when i lived in frisco, they seemed to be equally loved. of course, those were the years of, and following, the bay area series. *sigh* if only those days were back...
