New Screen size = Re-written apps to accommodate that new screen. The current apps on the app store are still trying to upgrade to retina display.
If that is the case then we know the iPod Touch will get a bigger screen too.
I think its just a dream
New screen size doesn't mean new screen resolution. Same pixels in a larger display.
And there was little rewrite to existing apps required. iOS automatically resized the user interface to fit. Only if there was a need to use those additional pixel would there be a reason to rewrite anything. Photo apps perhaps.
Agree, the only thing I hate about my iphone 4 is how the square shape feels in the hand.
I disagree. I find that the current form of the iPhone 4 with the flat square edges to be quite comfortable and easy to hold with one hand while making calls etc. Maybe the round edges are better when holding a bigger device like the iPad when you use two hands all the time, but I would not like that for a phone. My opinion anyway. What I would like to see is the home button be moved to te lower right hand corner of the phone. This would allow for a larger screen while keeping the phone the same size. Plus it would be easier to press with one hand and could double as a camera button. Again, just opinion.
I'm in the market for the iPhone 5. So bring it on Apple. 3.7 to 4 screen on the same sized form factor. Edge-to-edge screen sounds great to me. And add a 64 GB storage config while you're at it.
Are you sure you don't have this unchecked? All my contacts synced the first time I synced my iPhone, but I use mobileme now anyway.
I think he's saying not that it's missing contacts, but it's not copying over the field in which he keeps the parent names of each student, which I suspect he has in a notes field.
A broadly curved back is a bad idea in my opinion, when you set it on a desk, tapping on controls will make the screen wobble. With the curved back, you need the second hand to hold it steady. Some curve to make it easy on the hands when held would be nice. It looks like the iPad 2 balances both needs reasonably well.
I agree. It seems interesting and I don't think the devs need to do anything.
The difference is marginal. It's close enough to 300ppi that most people won't notice but might have better usability with buttons having a little more space.
The apparent rez difference wouldn't be a big deal. I find my iPhone 4 to be sharper than required now. But the slightly larger screen will be easier to read, and typing would be easier as well, with more speed, and less errors. Both advantages are worthwhile. I don't like the bigger phones, as they seem clumsy in my not very large hands. If Apple can do this without increasing the size, then it would be great.
We should remember that a screen without the need of a large bezel around it for the electronics came out last year. So this isn't an impossibility.

It's got to be in the middle. People are both right and left-handed. What is better for one group, is worse for the other.

I know this, that's why I said is was my opinion. Plus it would be just as easy to push with the ring finger of the left hand. Apple usually knows what is best through their research. Brainstorming never hurt anything

No, it never hurts. I just gave you my opinion in return as someone who has designed products.
And I'm a mechanical engineer. I know about design as well.
He just wants to be argumentative today, RedRaider. I see he's apparently on the warpath and imposing his views (as fact) on everyone today. Now I don't feel so singled out. It sounds to me like someone needs to take a long lunch break, go get some fresh air and come back with a refreshed perspective.
All this engineering drawing suggests is that the glass is edge-to-edge. The display may not be any larger than it is now.
The glass is already edge to edge in the iP4. It sure is the display. And it makes a lot of sense. It's the only option to enlarge the display without tampering with the devices size. What in my opinon is an absolute no go.
Honestly I think the biggest improvement direction apple should go in is in rounding out the feature set of iOS. It needs a true shared file system area so apps can share information, even if it's remote on apple's servers. Also, it takes way too many taps or swipes to do basic functions like turn wifi off or change app settings. I also wish apple would implement a coverflow-like system for basic function changes (swipe to a corner or use a special kind of swipe to change basic functions without leaving the current app.) Also multi-tasking needs an overhaul- it's ridiculously stupid to tap-tap-tap-tap to close all background applications. One more change: iOS needs a customizable home screen. You shouldn't need to jailbreak just to get a calendar on your home screen, for example.
Honestly if apple would just improve iOS and make the iPhone more powerful as usual (more pixels, better battery, lighter, faster), that would be plenty good enough to upgrade.

And lets not forget that Apple is not a big fan of asymmetry. It would be a lop-sided design. Jony Ive would never lower himself to this aesthetic.
