I foresee an "Open Letter to ISPs" on Apple's site if more of them even think about trying this nonsense.

Don't worry about it. Apple will win because they'll take the side of the consumer.

That would be a new one. Apple is known for forcing their proprietary standards on their users. This is one thing Steve learned from Bill. Like AAC for audio through iTunes. So if history is anything to go by, they'll force this software download thing as well. Starting from the launch of OSX.7 Lion.

And Apple products selling stores will have even less to do with software (and with getting to know how it works, and helping customers), and inch ever further towards becoming mere box selling warehouses where it is enough for sales personel if they can read and operate the register. Thus lower personnel cost. And a far greater pool of available 'sales staff' in the market.

The beneficiary of all that is Apple, not the user.

    From Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Audio_Coding

    Quote:

AAC was developed with the cooperation and contributions of companies including AT&T Bell Laboratories, Fraunhofer IIS, Dolby Laboratories, Sony Corporation and Nokia. It was officially declared an international standard by the Moving Picture Experts Group in April 1997. It is specified both as Part 7 of the MPEG-2 standard, and Subpart 4 in Part 3 of the MPEG-4 standard.

Oh, USB. SO proprietary. And can you believe that Thunderbolt? Incredibly locked down.

Except that's the opposite direction in which Apple Stores are moving.

I fail to see how either of your statements have anything to do with the topic at hand, much less how they rebut what I said.
