Will the next generation of Macbook Air come with Mac OS X Lion? The timing for the refresh may fall right after Lion is released.

It comes with Lion only after Lion is released. I'm confused why this question doesn't answer itself.

I think he was trying to say that the OS X Lion release date could be tied together with a MacBook Air event, thus making it possibly more likely that there will be a MacBook Air refresh this June or thereabouts?

Well, the chips are out now, so it's only a matter of time.

As for a Lion preinstall, I don't believe Lion'll be out before October, so it's doubtful.

Oh, well that's a shame. I'm sort of holding out from getting a MBA until June just to see what happens.

I know that the current gen is good enough for what I want, but me being the stingy person I am, I like to get my money's worth..

Seriously you either need the MBA or you don't. If you don't - wait; not for Lion by the way but for what should be an excellent performance update. That is if Apple goes with this round of chips from Intel, they might wait for something different.

This whole question is strange because it is far to early to even guess about the next AIR.

I would only see them tying the release of the new Air to Lion if some aspect of the hardware was dependent on it. I'm fairly skeptical about that.

I can recall of not a single instance where Apple released a new Mac platform as a showcase for a new version of MacOS/MacOS X. New Apple computer platforms ship with special builds of the extant OS.

When you think about it, you will understand this is the only way to do it.

I understand that, but what I'm saying is that if the next one has a Lion pre-install I'd probably wait to get that one, to save myself having to buy the hardware and then to buy the OS later on.

If Lion isn't to be released until October then I may as well buy a MBA now, and save myself trying to use an iPad as a laptop replacement as I am doing so now.

myjoeyp I understand what you mean, I am in the same boat. My wife needs an MBA. She's still using a 12" PBG4! Wasn't interested in upgrading until the 11" Air came out. Which I totally get. We are a Mac couple. I used to have the 12" PBG4 as well. Anyhow... Hopefully they get Lion out by July or August, and before MBA update, so it ships with Lion.
