Apple Logs Locations of All iPhone Users

From Slashdot:

"The Guardian reports that researchers have found a hidden file on all iPhones, iPads and any computers to which they synchronize, logging timestamped latitude and longitude coordinates of the user since June 2010. A tool is available on their website to check on your own."

Wanna bet those data will crop up at some very inconvenient moment in the future?

What's your point, adbot? The data is used for picture location tagging as well as location-based applications. You've known FOREVER that you can turn off location services. The device ALWAYS asks you when an application wants location access, and you can always deny them later.

According to that source, the information is gathered passively...you are not notified about it.

And according to that source, you are not given an option to turn it off.

The iPhone system, by contrast, appears to record the data whether or not the user agrees. Apple declined to comment on why the file is created or whether it can be disabled.
