  the 'war on terrorism', US foreign policy, the 'war on drugs', the so called crackdown on corporate corruption..etc etc etc etc etc....all these are riddled with the most horrendously blatant double standards.

  I second Eugene. Both Conservatives and Liberals are too extreme in how they view the other side of the issue. Only moderates have the capacity to be even-handed and unbiased (most of the time).

  I'd say that the most tolerant people out of the two major political parties are moderate Republicans. Too many liberals are hypocrates and hold a double standard when it comes to "tolerance."

  Liberals are more tolerant, unless it's a conservative person/agenda. Mainly due to liberals letting anyone do anything they want and not judging.
  
  
  
  Conservatives on the other hand have their political agenda based on certain principles that make others' freedom to do anything they want wrong. In other words, conservatives don't like to stand by and let certain beliefs get changed in the populace.
  
  
  
  So, in effect, I'd say liberals are more tolerant in general than conservatives. It's almost by definition. However, liberals cannot usually stand to TOLERATE conservative principles.

  I've found conservatives to me profoundly tolerant of discussion and the views of others, usually in the smug hope that airing the views will help show how ridiculous they often are.

  What is tolerance anyway, and is it always a good thing? No. If I am the owner of a car company, I wouldn't tolerate regular assembly defects and poor design. If such a thing happened, I'd figure a way to fix it. Is it wrong to be intolerant here? I don't think so. In a pure sense of the word, utterly tolerant people are those who don't care about anything at all. Usually the term "worthless" comes to mind to describe these types.
  
  
  
  If you're refering to political tolerance, which would fit the context of the question, then continue.
  
  
  
  First of all, the term Liberal and Conservative don't exactly fit into Democrat and Republican well at all, and as far as I know, NO party on earth associated with the word "Liberal" is particularly Liberal in the meaning of the word. That's why true liberals had to come up with a new term: Libertarian.
  
  
  
  Getting back to the Liberal/Conservative debate, here's a reiterated view of very generalized American political slants.
  
  
  
  Liberal: Economic oppression and control, social freedoms.
  
  Conservative: Economic freedom, social oppression and control.
  
  
  
  Arguably, both of these groups are moderate, since they have certain slants toward freedom, certain slants towards control, and there's a lot of gray area in their policy making anyway. However, where there is desire for control, there is less desire for tolerance.
  
  
  
  Libertarians are extreme by our standards, yet they are the most tolerant group of all since they believe in economic and social freedom. While they do not tolerate socialism, coercive control, or anything of that sort, this type of intolerance is the same as the kind exhibited by the automaker described above, and I don't think it applies to the topic.

  Not at all. That doesn't even make sense knowing the definition of the word "moderate".
  
  
  
  Tolerance is not forgetting your beliefs, but opening yourself up to the beliefs of others. And if that's a bad thing...
  
  
  
  Tolerance is good in 99.99% of life's situations.
