Mariners win 2 of 3 and then hold a ceremonial burial of the rally monkey inside the pitcher's mound at Safeco. Baldwin will get scored on so often that people might confuse him with your girlfriend Shanny. Piniero and Moyer will own though. The bullpen will stop doing their imitation of the Ranger's bullpen hopefully.
Mariners look like a tired team though. Garcia is just way off. Sierra's bat is slowing down. Olerud and Ichiro are still most of the offense. Edgar is OK. Cameron is iffy but he may be emerging from his slump. Boone seems to be coming around which is about the only major positive at the moment. Guillen has been mediocre ever since he got his digit plunked, I doubt he gets better the rest of the year. Relaford is slumping. Wilson is still doing well at the plate which has been real nice, although unfortunately Ben Davis has a long way to go to be a competent major league hitter. McLemore is OK. If it weren't for his glove Cirillo should have long ago been locked into a room and forced to watch reruns of the Texas A&M football team on offense until his brain exploded. Piniero hasn't been quite as sharp his last couple of starts. Moyer is fine. Baldwin blows. Halama should have been made the fifth starter a month ago. Bullpen has blown several games in the second half already. The defense is good, the pitching has been bad lately but good for the season but the offense is just too erratic. For a team with weak power and no true bad ass they need to string many hits together to score. Hard to do that against good pitching, especially when you have 3 to 4 guys [Boone/Cameron/Cirillo/Relaford/Davis] in the lineup a lot of nights hitting below .240. Well Cameron will take a walk but those other guys don't. Too many runners left at third with one out. Too many close games lost. Too much mediocrity. They need a healthy Paul Abbott and a healthy Norm Charlton and they aren't gonna get the first and they're not gonna get the latter for a month. Brian Giles would be nice too.
I just pray that the Rangers can take at least one out of three from Oakland. Although Oakland doesn't deserve to make the playoffs, they should be disqualified from playoff contention if they continue to wear the retro uniforms.
