Boring Movies

I was just responding to a thread in fireside chat, and it came to my attention that i love some really boring movies. Some of them include Nixon andThe Remains of the Day. I just wanted to start a list of AI's most liked movies that are undeniably boring. It's strange, but think about it. I know that all of you out there have said that you hated a movie just because it was boring, but you find yourself thinking about it a little too much for you to consider it as one of the ones that you hated.

The Remains of the Day, as you mentioned, is a superb film and one of my favorites. And most say it is boring. Alot of the Merchant-Ivory work would fall under this category: Howards End, A Room With a View, etc. Perhaps, Scorcese's The Age of Innocence can be added to this list. Maybe even The English Patient. I'm unsure what would qualify as "boring" as though I love all the above films and do not find them boring, it seems prevailing opinion regards to them to be such.

I always thought of the Godfather movies as less than conventionally thrilling, although superb movies nonetheless. Also Magnolia, and perhaps even Boogie Nights. Ditto the Good the Bad and the Ugly.

The worst ones i've seen...

a couple.. i dont remember the names even. I woke up in the middle...

then a french artistic movie, i was seeing it for an hour ... it had no story, just music and graphics.. i went out (and forgot the name) it gave only headache...

last year then.. well, pearl harbour. it was 1,5 hours too long. and too boring.

then all those movies where there is a 40+ years old white couple (the movie is done to make the female protagonist 40+ to stay in hollywood??) with kids.. and who have a marriage crisis!! ANY kind of movie, even a horror one, with the 40+ old couple with the marriage crisis...

then anything soap style..

weird, i didn't like even atlantis last year!! i think it's the worst disney cartoon for ages... i can't be grown yet...

Well i see clearly what are this type of French moovie, boring non interesting, and a waste of money coming from my taxes ..;

No .. i didnt mean that powerdoc...

i've seen french movies that are much better than the boring hollywood ones (ok and now i have 10 000 US-applelovers to be convince i have seen good hollywood movies... nevermind)

it was once in high school.. i skipped the lessons to go to movies. i don't really remember the name, but it was graphical effects and weird music. I couldn't stand it much more than 1 hour. in the end i guess NOBODY survived it... <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" />

and, one where i woke up in the middle.. i heard the siren.. i was afraid i aws blacked out so the thing i had on my mind waking up there was that i had to get out and quickly... <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" />

2001: A Space Oddysey. I loved that movie. But, it is undeniably boring if you don't approach it correctly (wink, wink, nudge, nudge; say no more). I think the monkey scene is my favorite part. Also, another Kubrick film, Dr. Strangelove: Or How I Stopped Worrying and Learned to Love the Bomb. That one is a bit tired, at points, but still very good. Now that I think of it, Eyes Wide Shut (also Kubrick) was a little boring at times, but the onscreen sex kind of made more interesting. And if any of you haven't seen Kubrick's other movies, they are also very good, though not quite as boring. A couple of my favorites of his are Full Metal Jacket, and A Clockwork Orange.

"The Fifth Element". Not funny, not fascinating, but everybody tells me how great this movie is. I confess: I hate it. It's not SF, it's not a comic, it has no ideas and no feelings.

Don't worry Mulattabianca, i was not ironic, there is great french moovies, but there is also too much moovie made with the state money wich are absolutely boring (an entire moovie where we can see a women wash a room : very entertaining indeed). For one good sentimental picture like Amelie, there is plenty of moovie that worth nothing and which are absolutely boring.

Hollywood make also a lot of crapy moovies, but when you watch them they are entertaining even if at the end you think that was not a mastercraft moovie.

The Thin Blue Line is kinda boring but a great film. It's one of the best documentaries about a screwed up criminal justice system.

And it's by the same guy who directed the 'Switch' ads.

Finally someone who agrees with me! I have seen it twice and fell asleep both times!

Same with Pitch Black, excellent film but I can't watch the whole thing without nodding off.

Dune's deadly boring...

They showed it the other night and there was star trek next gen on the other channel so surfing the channels it wasn't so pleasant so guess which you were seeing.. they had the same actors..

Luc Besson is an amazing (though erratic) director. "The Professional" is still my favorite with "La Fem Nikita" and "5th Element" next in line.

David Lynch's Dune? I have the director's cut and it's bearable. Though it does drag.

Another boring move? "Days of Heaven", a cinematic dream but wooden acting...like watching grass grow... <img src="graemlins/oyvey.gif" border="0" alt="[No]" />

Not only that but prdictable as well.
