It is so bad that it gives bad movies a good name. What is most annoying about this movie is that the makers never heard of a steady cam. If you are scared well you are scared of your shadow; you should see instead Signs even though the ending is very violent.
I wasn't even scared. It didn't suck, but I honestly cannot see what the big fuss was over!
Some breaking sticks and a couple of distant children's voices didn't really do anything for me, fear-wise.
Finding Josh's teeth/hair was a bit freaky, but I STILL kept waiting to "get truly scared".
Wasn't a bad movie (I liked the style/tone of it, and how it seemed "real"), but I don't know why all those critics and reviewers were creaming their jeans about this being "truly scary!" or "the most frightening film ever made" or whatever.

I rented it on DVD and there was, in addition to the movie itself, some other features, including a fake "documentary" about the whole Blair Witch thing (the history of it, leading up to these three dorks going missing). Had all these "professors" and media types (some good accurate-looking stagings of newscasts and interviews with Heather's "film school professor", etc.
All that stuff was more interesting than the actual movie!
Also, I watched the movie again, only on the second time I did it with the director's running audio commentary/voiceover. Interesting how they went about making it.
A 6 or 7 out of 10 stars, I guess. On the Scare-o-meter?, I give it about a 1.2.

There was no steady cam! The whole idea behind the movie was that the group themselves were filming it on their excursion - freehand. It's deliberately shaky, but not so much were it looks fake or trying too hard. Don't forget, when this movie first hit limited theaters, many thought it was real.
Some people didn't get it, and most of them hated it. It depends on the person (like I stated above). Did anyone see Blair Witch II? Now THAT is a movie that gives bad movies a good name! It was a bad idea and bombed deservingly.
I saw it in a little dark theatre on campus (Dobie!) with these weird paintings on the wall. It was me (by myself) with about 12 other people scattered throughout.
The thing that scared me was the babies and the kids laughing with the shaking tent. Dead kids/kid ghosts/kid demons scare the hell out of me. Nothing else really does, but those always get me. Little girl under the bed in 6th Sense... :eek: :eek:
It made me seasick. But I watched it in the theaters. It was very difficult to keep looking at it, and that kind of ruined it for me. I should try it again at home someday, but since I already know what happens, it might not be worth it. It seemed like the kind of movie you can only watch once, subsequent viewings adding nothing to the experience.

As far as I know the 'B' moniker indicates that they were the second half of a double-feature and the genre includes quite a damn few great movies. And if you ask me BWP isn't even a 'B' movie. Pitch Black is, maybe, and that is a damn good movie.
Anyway. I saw Blair Witch and enjoyed it quite a bit, but I am easily self-hypnotized, especially by movies. (Why, hell, I enjoyed Pitch Black for God's sake ) Scared blue hell out of me, as well. I give it thumbs up.

new b movies suck.... the old ones were really funny and entertaining.... i dono what happened... maybe multi-million dollar operating budgets for something that really should just be smoke and mirrors?
Edit: what was that movie called where these "things" only detect heat and try and kill everyone... it ends with the hero covering himself with the fire extinguisher stuff to kill them all in one big explosion....

Only one of the greatest movies ever to hit television with such entertaining consistency that you can watch it at 6 a.m. on a Sunday morning and not wander to different channels!

"Tremors" is tops on my list of silly "guilty pleasure" movies (along with "Harley Davidson & the Marlboro Man", "The Last Boy Scout" and "Dazed and Confused".
"Tremors" is GREAT! Bacon and Ward are hilarious, and seeing Michael Gross (who for YEARS played aging 60's liberal dad on "Family Ties") play the prototypical right-wing, anti-government survivalist gun nut was great!
Even Reba McIntire does a good job (as his wife, no less).
That thing comes on AT LEAST once a month (it seems) on TNT, TBS, USA or one of those channels. I can't help but watch it!
By the way, did anyone else think this Heather Donahue chick was kinda cute in "Blair Witch"? She looked like a more "girl next door" version of Christina Applegate.
She was annoying as can be, but I wouldn't have minded spending a few nights in a tent with her.

God, I was thisclose to predicting you'd think she was good looking, but I was afraid the screeching would turn you off.
I thought she was pretty hot, too, especially since I love girls in tight, faded jeans!

I went out to grill some food and when I came back to watch it there were these creatures called "assblasters" on it. Silly? Yep.
The asian girl who ran the 'general store' had a graphite iBook SE though...
