Imagine if all 4 Big Ten teams in the top 11 win their bowl games! It would be total Big Ten Domination!
  • Reply 403 of 492
Is there any chance Iowa could play Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl? I would love for that to happen. Hope Miami loses, but they wont.
  • Reply 404 of 492
    It's unlikely, TW. Iowa is 5th in the <a href="http://espn.go.com/abcsports/bcs/rankings_full/index.html"; target="_blank">BCS Standings</a>.

No way all four Big Ten teams win their bowls. All will lose their games except for maybe Penn State.

    Who has Iowa played?

Is 34-9 over Michigan really impressive enough to overcome a schedule that Kansas State might turn away as too easy?

Yeah yeah they're good, they score lots of points against Northwestern. Wahoo.

Third best team in the nation? No way in hell, friends, no way in hell.
  • Reply 407 of 492
Right. If you could only support those claims you could be on TV with the rest of the Big Ten naysayers. Unfortuntely, K-State has a worse schedule than Iowa- being ranked 52nd to Iowa's 47th. (Michigan would be 2, by the way). And Iowa is #5 in the BCS- where rankings actually matter. Plus, not one poll ranks K-State higher than Iowa. Deservedly so. The Big Ten was pretty good this year- I'm just hoping Ohio State's defense holds up against Miami.

    Awww, man...

Right now CNNSI projects Iowa State for the Humanitarian Bowl!

For those of you who don't know, that's the much dreaded "Blue Field Bowl" mentioned earlier in this thread.

Frighteningly , Boise State has already accepted the other berth, making it a home game for them. Two weeks ago I would have scoffed, but that UConn game really shook my confidence.

I'm still not sold on the Big Ten. I'll be very interested to see who they all draw. If the lower teams get a bunch of games against the SEC or Big XII I guess they'll have their chance to prove us all wrong.

Boise State is an OK team. On a neutral field they would not be worrisome but playing on their field in Idaho in December could be scary. Plus there is nothing to be gained in such a game, a win gets you no props and a loss is veiwed as an embarrassment. UCLA skipped a bowl last year rather than settle for the Humanitarian.

Michigan and Florida in Outback is pretty even. I favor PSU slightly over Arkansas or Auburn in Citrus which assumes that Georgia wins. Ohio State probably has a 1 in 3 chance of beating Miami in the Fiesta. Iowa we don't know their opponent yet. Bowl games are always kinda random though since teams haven't played a game in six weeks. Wisconsin will be gang raped if they play Kansas State as some have speculated in the Alamo. Wisconsin doesn't belong in a bowl. Purdue will have a fairly even game against a middling PAC 10 team in the Sun, maybe Oregon State? Minnesota will lose to Tennessee/Auburn/Arkansas in the Music City Bowl, Minnesota doesn't really belong in a bowl either.

The Big Ten really will have only one game where they are favored, PSU in the Citrus, and I think WI and MN are very probably losses. The Big Ten was actually fairly deep the last two years, it was the top of the conference that was horrible. This year the top four are solid but the other teams are weaker than normal. Obviously Ohio State beating Miami would be huge though not just as a national championship but in beating a team that schools from all conferences haven't been able to beat for almost three seasons now. If OSU loses though the Big Ten can still be successful if PSU, Michigan and Purdue win which are all fairly plausible.

The K-State thing was a joke because K-State always has a weak schedule. Wise up, Neidermeyer.

I notice throughout your post that you never actually address the fact that they had a pathetically weak schedule.

They are ranked #5 in the BCS because they have 1 loss and the human polls love them (#3 in AP & Coaches, but only #5 in BCS, hmmm).

I am definitely a Big Televen detractor and Iowa will be "exposed". I don't know who they will match up with in the BCS but chances are they get rolled, I'll make a prediction when I see their opponent.

PSU and Michigan will probably be the only bowl wins the Big Televen gets this year.

Sorry, Grover, we can't all be playing North Texas, Baylor, and Houston. Some teams just aren't three deep with all-american recruits like Texas. Too bad all those hot shit recruits still can't buy a win against Oklahoma.

Yes, Iowa's schedule is a bit weak, but this team is for real. We have one of the best quarterbacks and two of the best lines in the country. No one can run against us. Once we started playing man on pass defense, no team has even been close to us (unlike Ohio State).

<img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" /> Cool. But I don't see how stating that Iowa is #47 in terms of strength of schedule can come across as never addressing the "fact" that they have a weak schedule. Naturally, there are only about 100 teams. If you want to talk about weak schedules, how about Miami at #30- yet you don't see any drop-off from the polls and to the BCS.

Schedule smack from an Iowa fan?

North Texas, lame as it is, had a pretty good defense (Top 10 nationally) and won their DivII conference. Can the same be said for Miami (Ohio) and Akron?

47th toughest schedule in the nation. Sad.

[quote]<strong>Some teams just aren't three deep with all-american recruits like Texas. Too bad all those hot shit recruits still can't buy a win against Oklahoma.</strong><hr></blockquote>

We do all right against Iowa State... yourself?

[quote]<strong>We have one of the best quarterbacks and two of the best lines in the country. </strong><hr></blockquote>

One of the best quarterbacks in the country if the list is 15-20 guys long.

Easy for your squad to look good playing MAC powerhouses.

Make sure an check back in after the bowls.
  • Reply 415 of 492
Miami Ohio is appreciably better than North Texas. Not that that really matters since either ought to be beaten by a top 10 team but none the less they are better. Akron blows, North Texas would probably beat them. In general the MAC is superior to the Sun Belt by a decent margin, Sun Belt is far and away the weakest Divison 1A conference. Not that anyone really cares, but I just thought I would say that.

I think Iowa is an excellent team, one of the top 5 in america. Iowa State losing to Iowa is just one of those rivalry game things. Rivalry games tend to be far more random. I'm not going to hold losing to their in state rival against them too harshly, it happens. Likewise I wouldn't hold it against good Big 12 teams like Texas when they lose to a 5 loss Texas Tech team. Likewise for Oklahoma which lost, for the second year in a row, to a 5 loss Oklahoma State team that lost on their home field to UCLA and lost their season opener to Louisiana Tech. Or a Colorado team that won their division of the Big 12 but lost for the second year in a row (maybe even 3 or 4 years in a row?) to a decent but not great Colorado State team that just got beat on their home field this weekend by UNLV. Good teams tend to lose a lot more often to worse teams when those worse teams happen to be in the same state.

There are many many schools that should be ashamed of their non-conference schedules. With the requirement of the BCS to win 9 games and everyone's desire to be national champions it is easy to see why there are relatively few tough non-conference games scheduled these days. A shame for football fans.

Who has the best quarterback rating in the nation? Brad Banks. Just think how good he would be with an all-pro daddy.

We looked better in the Big 10 than we did in the preseason. You obviously haven't seen Iowa play this year.

Believe me, I'll be back after the bowls. I won't even guarantee a win. I will guarentee that we will be competitive and show that we are indeed at least a top five team.

Plus, who else thinks that even Northwestern would beat Baylor 50-0? <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" />

Northwestern might score 50 on Baylor but their defense is so bad they could play the Montana School for the Blind and they still wouldn't be able to shut them out.
  • Reply 418 of 492
I heard about the Montana School for the Deaf and Blind. It seems they have a good <a href="http://www.sdb.state.mt.us/"; target="_blank">basketball team</a> this year. <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" />

Brad Banks does not lead the nation in <a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/statistics?stat=pass&sort=rat&season=2&year=2002&g roup=80" target="_blank">quarterback rating</a>.

I guess Ryan Dinwiddie is some kind of football God, he's got 40 points on Banks.

Then at 3rd under Banks, Brian Jones from Toledo.

That's some elite company right there.

Banks is Top 10 maybe. Top 15 most likely.

[quote]Just think how good he would be with an all-pro daddy.<hr></blockquote>

Is that some kind of Chris Simms dig? If so I don't get it, could you explain?

[quote]You obviously haven't seen Iowa play this year.<hr></blockquote>

Amazing that games against Purdue (what, your 3rd toughest opponent on the year?) aren't televised.

I watched the Michigan ass-kicking, you know the one that had everyone falling all over themselves talking about how great Iowa is. They don't carry Iowa games in my region usually (derned ABC) because they aren't a powerhouse.

I'd take that TE Dallas Clarke in a heartbeat, he's got skills.

I don't see the big deal. I don't know what would be wrong about leaving Iowa out of the BCS.
