Has iBooks been updated to allow reading on the iMac?
No.

If not I will order via Kindle which has a free Mac app which syncs perfectly with the iDevice app so one can read in front of whatever screen one desires.
Yeah, that sort of nonsense is exactly what we don't need right now, thanks.
I would like to read this book on my iPhone, iPad and iMac.

Perspective: the capacity to look beyond one's own selfish interest to see the larger context. Check it out sometime.
Nonsense? I'm legally blind and have trouble reading on small screens. It's of paramount necessity to me. Hardly nonsense. And not sad. I'd rather order on iBooks but if I can't read it it makes no sense.
What's amazing about this book is the Steve Jobs specifically asked to not be allowed to see it in advance or influence the way it is written. And he wanted ex-girlfriends, people he fired, and others who might paint a less-than-flattering portrait of Mr. Jobs be interviewed as well. He was fearless - as always. He wanted authenticity more than praise. He started working on this book nearly 4 years ago when he knew he might not have long to live. And the 600+ page autobiography will be released just 19 days after his passing. Only Steve Jobs could have such perfect timing of an autobiography.
I was hoping with iOS 5 that iBooks would be updated to allow reading on a Mac. Maybe that will be a new feature; don't know; have not had time to check. Did check about a month ago. There are threads in the Apple Support forums regarding this. Have additional trouble seeing because have been crying non-stop since last night. Steve Jobs has been the Light of my life for over 30 years.
I would like to read this book on my iPhone, iPad and iMac.
Great idea.

Your syntax makes you sound like a new Mac user.

Sorry about the syntax. Have autism; known effect is non colloquial syntax.
Long time Mac user, used to work for Apple, long time champion of Steve Jobs. Getting older and enlarging print is becoming essential. Have an iPad 1 but partner takes it to work 12 hours per day so it's either the iPhone or iMac and I really have trouble seeing on the iPhone.
I want to pre-order the book today but need to be able to see it! Still going to wait to see if there is an upgrade to allow reading iBooks on the iMac. That will be a wonderful day!
This book is written by Isaacson who is the CEO of the Aspen Institute, a liberal, socialist agenda organization which lets millionaires influence politicians with all-expense-paid vacations to exotic spots to learn more about how to create a perfect democratic society.
Remember Aspen Institute's event where Bill Gates advocates Death Panels?!:
An example: "By far, the biggest spender on congressional trips is the Aspen Institute.
Who was the top congressional traveler funded by the Aspen Institute? Goerge Miller Democrat from Northern California who attended 26 vacation/conferences along with his wife from 2000-2006, visiting places like the Grand Caymans, Florence, Italy, Helsinki, Finland, China, Rome, Moscow, Cancun, Venice Italy, Dublin, Ireland, Honolulu, Barcelona, Spain to name just a few. "
How funny, when the United States is not now and never will be a democracy -- which is two wolves and a sheep deciding what is for dinner. The US is a republic.
That said, I am sure the book is interesting and I will read it, BUT the author is not aligned with the Founders!
I think its best to buy the Hard Cover version (just Pre-Ordered mine), i know were all for the digital content now, but something like this need to stand alone in every home, if you wish a memento of the late great Steve Jobs

It's also available for pre-order on iBook store, and cheaper.
No it's not, it's the exact same price (as of right now):
iBooks $16.95
Kindle $16.95
Unless it's available enhanced from iBooks only with SJ's voice, I buy from whoever sells it cheaper.
Example:
Jacqueline Kennedy Historic Conversations....:
iBooks $19.95
Kindle $9.95
Both enhanced with actual Schlessinger tapes
Same price for iBooks and Kindle ($16.99) and its $17.88 for the hardcover.
No iBook reader for the Mac or PC that I'm aware of at this point to answer Cascadians.

Not to infuriate Tallest Skil (let it go- this is not a tribute page) but in that case I buy from Kindle so I can read it outdoors on E ink.
We all miss you so much.

No 'auto' there. It's just 'biography'.
