I can't believe all the whining. Who doesn't now understand the early adoption thing. I wanted mine on day one so I knew I had to brave through any hiccups. I enjoyed watching UPS tracking as my phone went from China to my house in two days. UPS came early for a change, then my phone didn't activate right away so I left it home, took the old one. 15 minutes after I go out the old one bricks as a phone 'cause the activation goes through. It is FUNNY. Stories to tell about opening day. If your years of using a superb device are ruined by just one day, then you have issue far beyond anything Apple or AT&T can fix. SIRI is in beta. They announced that right away. Get over yourselves and just enjoy it now that the tide is down. You were part of cell phone history and lore.

followed of course by a ton of folks complaining about how ATT can't get their acts together.

Forgetting that even if ATT, Apple etc had counted on double the day one traffic, it doesn't really help when they get triple or more. THey do their best but they are not gods. Not even Steve was.

That said, I actually went to a store to get my phone. Wasn't really planning on it but I had to pick up some stuff for my sister at the mall and noticed that the line at the time was nil (maybe 20 folks). so I said what the heck. I was just upgrading my line. Yes there were problems getting the service to start up but my old phone was still working so I told them not to sweat it, if it wasn't working by morning I'd bring it back. The sales person seemed relived that I was so chill but hey I have the weekend off so why be a bitch when it really isn't a hassle and I know how nuts launch weekends can be. I've read the stories for years.

by the time I got home, it was fine. Service was working etc. I'll run it through the paces and if anything seems amiss I'll go see them. But I'm thrilled so far. Especially with the camera which is the main reason I got it

i pre-ordered mine and UPS made me wait until 5pm to deliver it. It's sweet. A lot better than my Android device. Set up was very quick on Verizon.

The UPS finally arrived at 8:30 PM though. Was it irritating to wait so long? Of course, but mostly because I was stuck waiting at the door the entire day to sign for it.

I can't imagine somebody going, "What?! A few hours of activation problems during launch? That's it! I'm sending it back!" I consider myself an impatient person, but wow.

It would not have been possible to have introduced the product in a manner which would not cause massive failures.

    Right?

Yes, but then the fandroids would have nada to crow about. Apple tries hard to maximise happiness and deliver satisfaction to the greatest number of people.

    Cheers

I haven't seen anything yet about the numbers of each type of phone sold - 4S vs 4 vs 3GS. It wouldn't surprise me if the 3GS actually holds up well enough for the 3 iPhones to be #1, #2, and #3 in sales among all smartphones.

So much for all these people saying "I'm leaving for Verizon or Sprint". Good luck with slow speeds!

Total time: 90 minutes, tops. As close to perfect as I could ever hope for.

Wouldn't it be great if that happened every time you bought a new appliance? I'd like to see Samsung match that when you buy a new TV set!

If you cannot wait that long to get your phone activated, on launch day ... well, you need to learn some patience.

I however, also think that you're full of it only posted the above to get a rise out of people.

Does it really matter? It clears within a day or two, or most people don't have the problem at all. I certainly didn't have any issues updating all my iOS devices and Mac's. Took forever because of the number of updates, but considering I downloaded well over 7GB of combined updates and code it went surprisingly well.

If your inflexible or have a low tolerance for issues then just wait a week or two after any major product release.

    From any vendor.

Heck, if your that thin skinned, a year would be more your speed...
