That's right, I just heard this the other day. His injury was not supposed to heal....ever. He can now walk with electrical stimulation and can feel hot and cold in his limbs.
I just saw in the news that someone came out of a coma after seven years. There's a saying that miracles happen in three's, so maybe they are related. The third miracle would be if the Switch campaign finally gets Apple some new customers.

Possibly. I used to think he was deluding himself when he would set impossibly sort deadlines for walking again. But they kept up his hope, and he never seemed to become bitter and angry when he wasn't up and about by a particular date he set.

I hate to say this, but I would really like to be the person who tells him everything he missed. I don't know, it just seems like it would be an interesting experience.

I saw that too. That's so cool. I hope he does. Poor guy, he looks really rough these days. Saw him on some show last night and his hair has fallen out in huge clumps and his eyebrows and eyelashes are gone too.
When he makes a public appearance (Congress, a medical facility dedication, etc.), you can tell they've put makeup on him to make some eyebrows.
I think he'll walk someday. And I hope I'm there to see it when he does, perhaps he'll come out at an awards show or something? Be announced to present a nominee and just walk out? The place would go NUTS!
There's always something I find a bit creepy about his campaigning stance on issues relating to him finding a cure.
Don't get me wrong, he has my full support, but in his swinging attacks on the Bush administration with regard to embyonic stem-cell research he always seems to me to be coming at it from a very self-serving and arrogant point of view. <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" />
I don't know, Moogs. I was thinking perhaps the stress, combined with maybe hormones and chemicals going haywire and/or a reaction to certain drugs/medication he might be taking?

I've never seen anyone without eyebrows and lashes before. Very strange. And as far as his head hair goes, he'd look SO much better if he'd just shave it. It's so spotty and matted and missing-in-chunks, that it draws MORE attention and makes him look more sick and frail.
If he just shaved it off entirely, it wouldn't look nearly as jarring and odd. He could even make a Lex Luthor joke and people would think it's cute, considering who he's best know for playing...
I wonder if this 'feeling' isn't at all related to the 'phantom limb' phenomena. What's described here isn't the same thing as people mysteriously 'feeling' an amputated limb, but there might be a little mental trickery going on here too. However, if a stimuli were presented and he felt the correct sensation (hot or cold, etc) then that's something -- which is, I think, what's being reported. Didn't he also move a finger? Pretty dramatic, considering his injury should have killed him and he needs a machine to breathe.

he can do lots of things now. move his finger and his hand i believe, he can move his legs underwater with 5 pound weights, one on each foot. he can walk in water (with help of course) and push off from the pool wall (not sure what this means exactly). he can breathe without his ventilator for 90 minutes, possibly 2 hours. he has some feeling on approx 65% of his body. i belieev he can feel hot and cold now as well. i know i'm forgetting something.
I caught a news magazine segment that implied many refexes were not strictly controlled by the brain. They had people 'walking' in harnesses (nearly weightless) on treadmills cause there's a refex buried somewhere in your NS that lets you perform that motion, but 'control' is another issue. Still people were doing some pretty incredible things considering they aren't supposed to have any sort of motion below the spinal break. Who knows? Anyone here really know the NS well? It'd be interesting to hear what makes this movement possible.
