Siri cracked

"Today, we managed to crack open Siri's protocol. As a result, we are able to use Siri's recognition engine from any device. Yes, that means anyone could now write an Android app that uses the real Siri! Or use Siri on an iPad! And we're going to share this know-how with you."

Basically, Siri sends the data to the processing server using non-standard HTTP extensions. Of note is that the audio is encoded using Ogg Speex.

In principle that means that the real Siri could be run from/on Android phones and tablets, and on the iPad!, if someone writes an app for it.

But don't hold your breath, I don't expect that app today anymore...

Every non-apple device that uses SIRI has to spoof an actual iPhone 4S. There will not be any apps, except maybe one for people who want to use Siri who already have an iPhone 4s, so they can use both devices.

I think the android people should stop copying Apple... Siri is the best thing happened to iPhone and the android world cant take it?

I have noticed that voice control is working a lot better on my iPhone 4 now that iOS 5.1 is out. Could there be Siri components ingrained into voice control? I have noticed it nails most of my simple commands such as "play music" and requests to dial numbers in my contact list. One of which it NEVER got right, the name of my company "Franken Signs". Before 5.1 I would say "call Frankesigns" and it would say "Calling Police" or some other such nonsense. Just wondering...

You really think Siri is an Apple concept?

    Apple bought it.
