Samsung modifies, rebrands & relaunches Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Germany
In an attempt to bypass claims of patent infringement from Apple, Samsung has modified the design of its Galaxy Tab 10.1 touchscreen tablet, slightly renamed it, and re-released it in Germany.
The new product, known as the Galaxy Tab 10.1N, attempts to avoid design-related intellectual property owned by Apple. As noted by Florian Mueller of FOSS Patents, the newly redesigned tablet has a metal frame that wraps "all around the edge to the extent that a part of it covers the margins of the front side."
"I'm not in the position to say that this product definitely steers clear of infringement. That's up for the courts to decide," he said. "But without a doubt, Samsung has upped the ante fro Apple and its lawyers in case they wish to request a new injunction or allege that this constitutes an infringement of the existing one."
Germany has become an important battleground in the fight between Samsung and Apple. Just last week, Samsung filed a new complaint seeking an injunction against Apple's 3G products.
Up until this point, Apple has found the most success in seeing Samsung's products banned from sale. Samsung's revised Galaxy Tab 10.1N came about because a German court permanently banned sales of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in September.
Since then, Apple also won an injunction against the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia over accusations of patent infringement. Though Samsung has attempted to block sales of Apple products around the world under its own infringement claims, the Korean company has yet to succeed in doing so.

Apple was mad the item was easy to confuse with the iPad. Now it is less confusing. Got what they wanted, at least for now. Yet people still complain. I know, I know. You all think Apple owns the right to "black, rectangular, and glass fronted tablet" and anything that resembles that is unoriginal...but this is a change and that is what Apple was asking for.
You would think that Samsung would try innovating instead of copying. Shame on them for perpetuating their bad reputation. Idiots don't innovate...

Without Samsung innovations and inventiveness, the iPhone and iPad might not even be in Apple product line. You've giving Samsung short shrift IMHO.

I was under the impression it was under injunction because of an E.U. community design violation? What EU patents does it infringe on in Germany exactly?
Not sure why people are upset. Apple said "can't sell because this looks too similar" so Samsung, while fighting the claim, made a change to get the product out now. Then they can take the fight back to court, but still be selling the item in the mean time.

FWIW. your first image of Samsungs display area within an Italian electronics store shows the retailers (Euronics) wall of logos behind the Samsung display. It wasn't put there by Samsung. Not unlike standing in a US Best Buy and seeing various company logos. That one was put to bed as much ado about nothing several weeks ago.
The other images? Yeah, they were certainly going for the iPad look, copying the feel of a specific Apple product, and not the proper way to present their product IMO. Charger? No big deal, looks a lot like one of the Blackberry chargers too. The packaging is definitely borrowed and needs to be changed.

Wow, I have to agree... they are a great component innovator and producer.
I own a Samsung HDTV which is great. But all TVs look alike to me.
But to blatantly copy someone else's innovations in product design just screams to me that they have engineers, not creative artists in product design. The most creative group at Samsung, other than component engineers, seem to be their legal staff and marketing types.
So guess that we both are correct...!

Apple uses Samsung display panels.
As for why the older AMOLED Pentile display was used rather than the Super AMOLED-Plus used in the Galaxy S2 series, I have no idea.
To be clear, I don't agree with the way Samsung went out of their way to copy the feel of Apple's iPad packaging and presentation. Perhaps some areas of the world find it perfectly acceptable, but there's no need for it and it needs to change. But using that to claim Samsung simply copies everything and doesn't innovate shows a myopic view. Samsung is in nearly every consumer electronic product in some way from computers to washing machines. They don't simply resell someone else's components in a product of their design. They've invented the actual products/components, designed the equipment needed to produce them, purchased the land and invested in the factories they're produced in. IMO that's just as creative as coming up with an idea for a product, then looking for someone who can build it at the price you're willing to pay.
Why not just put a pair of those thick black glasses with big nose and brushy mustache on it.
Or, Galaxy Mr. Potatohead Pad with stick-on ears, lips, and googly eyes!

First Gen iPad?
The first Gen iPad had a consistently sized bezel and no front facing speakers.The new Tab has a protruding side bezel with thin upper and lower bezel (when held horizontally) and front facing stereo speakers.
The most important thing is that they've made it look different to the vague community design that the original 10.1 infringes on. If it's different enough will be up to Apple to decide if they want to attempt to assert their design in court again.
