On the Android platform there is a lifesaver app called 'Plan B' that you can download, install, and operate AFTER you lost your phone, to tell you where it's physically at, using GPS and tower triangulation:

It's a fundamental difference in the way Apple and Google do things.
No. Even if you have iCloud set to automatically download apps on all devices, you'd still need to set up said app on each device.

If you plan to lose it, install Find My iPhone on it. It's not hard. If you're in a high-theft area, you should be smart enough to take security measures like that, and likely already would have with your home, car, and other possessions.
