NCAA Basketball '02-3

I know there are many folks here who dislike football, so let's give basketball a shot.

NCAA teams started practices today and the season will start up soon enough.

I am looking forward to a great season from my beloved Texas Longhorns. We return all 5 starters from last year's Sweet 16 group, and T.J. Ford is one year better.

I know Thug Life will be all over this, but how's about some others?

Wow, I post nothing for a day and see this thread all the way down the AO page? You gotta be kiddin me.

What amazes me is how Duke can lose a 3 guys to the NBA (2 of them being high lottery picks) and still manage to be ranked very highly going into the season. SLAM magazine has them #3 in their little poll, which is hard to swallow if you're not a Blue Devil fan. Surely Chris Duhon and Dahntay Jones aren't THAT good now are they? Coach K got a loaded recruiting class as always.

The team I've always followed has a history of choking in March, and that would be Cincinnati. Sure UCLA wasn't your average 8th seed and 2nd round opponent. Still, I yearned for that Cincy-OSU matchup to happen. They surprised me a lot last year honestly. I had no idea they could accomplish what they did last season, but I think it's a testiment to how good a coach Bob Huggins is. If you guys didn't know already he suffered a heart attack, but he's ok now and should be ready for the season. I didn't attend Midnight Madness, but look for the Bearcats to be a team on the watch. There are good JUCOs coming in, as well as some talented freshman. As always the team will be athletic, but I question a lack of any shooter come tourney time.

What Cincinnati loses in Logan they make up for in some aspects with the new point guards. I think they desperately need a play maker in order to go deep into March. I expect them to do a good job locking people up like they did last year with the best defense in the country. C-USA looks to be pretty good this year, with Marquette back in full force and ranked high. That's definitely the most feared opponent down here.

I like college basketball a lot, especially March Madness. There's always this buzz that surrounds me and everything come March. We should try to get a contest going and fill out brackets. I think that would be fun.

you know i will as your favorite team and mine, the sooners, are picked number three in the pre-season. big twelve ball looks to be very competitive this year. ou, texas, osu, missouri, and kansas are all going to be in the thick of it once again. should be fun.

tj ford is a a bad ass. possibly the best guard in college hoops. if he has another great season, it would not surprise me if he didn't go pro the end of his sophomore year. he's that good.

Bite your tongue! T.J. is going to petition the NCAA for 7 more years of elegibility.

I don't think he'll leave after this year, his jump shot isn't consistent enough to be a lottery pick. If that kid can get a jump shot going on a consistent basis he's Isaiah Thomas II. I'm betting he declares after his junior year.

    TL:

Yeah I heard about Huggins and it's good to hear he's doing all right. It seems like Cincy always has a good squad and I'm sure he's a big reason why.

Duke is unfair, so much so I love it when they lose. They could lose their entire team to the draft and they next year they'll be a #1 seed with the recruiting classes he pulls in.

Hey, guru, you left out Iowa State! Jake Sullivan and a good recruiting class should keep them competitive.

Tiger, should we look for a kindler, gentler Huggins on the bench this year? <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" />

College Basketball frustrates me when the best players always bolt early.

Dook sucks and they're overrated this year.

The longhorns can kiss my carolina blue ass. Between taking Mack Brown (choke, choke) and hiring Rick Barnes, I probably hate them almost as much as I hate Dook (and I'm doing my residency at dook. How's that for irony?).

Heels, baby. All the way. Ok, maybe not. At least we've got a good class coming in. I just wish they would have gotten rid of Doughtery last year and started fresh. The man can't coach.

UConn lost Caron Butler to the NBA. He's a great talent and there's no way we'll be able to replace him. I don't see us cracking the top 10 in the rankings. Even so, last year's team surprised a lot of people - myself included. Any team coached by Jim Calhoun is worth watching. Maybe there'll be more surprises for us. Go Huskies!

Ahah, Carolina sucks now buddy. But all I gotta say is look out for my boy Jawad williams! He'll be stunnin fo sho!

Nobody disses Duke for one reason.

About UConn, I actually picked them last year to do damage even though alota peeps was sleepin on the Huskies. ButI thought the Salukis had a chance against them. Jermaine Dearman is Ludacris. I had Southern Illinois in the Sweet 16 with UConn.

Felton is the shit. Our freshmen from last year were too young, but not so this year. Just wait.

My man's still Ed Cota. Best pure point guard to ever play, I'd say. Too bad he was a college player.
