Whenever I need an abortion the first thing I think is to ask Siri.

Proof that Siri isn't choosing to exclude abortion clinics for some secret political agenda. How do you explain that, Jetz?

It is entirely possible (and actually likely) that Apple doesn't use Yelp for questions of that nature. To prove that point, you'd have to first figure out what source Apple uses for questions of that nature and then see if Apple was providing different results than the original source.

Like I said, I honestly think some programmer simply excluded any sex related topics (other than the easter eggs that have come out). That's the reason Siri won't even spit out some of the Yelp results.

Unless you're in Denver, I guess.

And what about your comments about Siri choosing to be glib about rape? You also think that programmer including glib comments about violent acts?

No. Apparently, providing sexual health info is a lower priority than letting you know where to bury a dead body, where to find a pizza, or where to get laid. Rape and abuse information not so much. Siri can't even be bothered to give you the opportunity to web search for it.

If being concerned about something like this makes me crazy so be it. I happen to think that an information source and resource that is extensively advertised as a key selling feature of an Apple product should certainly prioritize finding you the phone number of rape crisis centre (or at least suggest the nearest hospital or police station...which it doesn't do either...like it does for "I'm bleeding.") over helping you find a cheeseburger.

Seriously right? I mean who care about women looking for birth control? It's not like providing a list of pharmacies would be obvious? And who cares if Siri tells you there's no abortion clinics or rape crisis centres in your area. Clearly these issues are on par with the weather and DVR listings for some people.

Unfortunately, I could actually see some 15 year old kid taking Siri's answer as gospel. That's not a far-fetched scenario.

We don't lock threads. If it turns into politics we will just move it to Political Outsider. If just a few people start insulting other people, we will just delete their posts faster than they can make them.

I know that you don't generally close threads but this can get out of hand.

You're comparing search results to assault?

Oh stop with your BS weasel-words. "Sexual health" is simply a nice term you're using for abortion. And yes, when it comes to the vast majority of users, finding a pizza is a lot more important than finding an abortion clinic.

Dude...one word: Perspective. It's freaking BETA SOFTWARE being sold on a SMARTPHONE. And you're assailing Apple for it not being able to take care of every need in a person's life. You might as well throw a fit about it not automatically warning you that tobacco is bad for your health when you search for cigarette shops..

They're not looking for birth control, Mr. intellectually dishonest. And they are not even looking for abortion clinics. Someone just happened to notice this and decided to make a big deal out of it. Show me one person that couldn't get rape counseling because her Siri didn't function properly. For f***'s sake.

These issues are not on par with DVR listings and the weather, but the issue of Siri results IS. It's a smartphone. It's not a magical cure-all. Get over it.

Yup, information that doesn't match your groupthink is "false"

Gotta love the ACLU... Civil Liberties as long as you meet their narrow definition for acceptable

Ugh, your wasting your time expecting an informed or objective opinion in these forums - let alone on a topic such as this one

Time to move on - I can't believe I expected an actual discussion coming into this thread. Silly me...

Nope. Actual abstinence would work (except for involuntary cases such as rape), if people were willing to follow through with the commitment. But it is not realistic to expect that the majority of the population will actually adhere to the goal of actual abstinence.

Basing a nation's strategy of controlling issues such as unplanned-for pregnancies, diseases, etc, purely upon a single-pronged tactic of promoting abstinence will not work. A majority of people who are preached at about the virtues of abstinence will ignore the advice. Teaching abstinence doesn't work because people will just go out and have sex anyway.
